ConsulCaesar: On another note, this reminds me I need to play Beneath a Steel Sky.
Yes, you do! It's a great adventure game, better than many adventures that you have to pay for, and it is free.
Voted, will be interesting to see how this turns out. Visually, this somehow reminds me of Blue Stinger, one of the launch titles for the Dreamcast back when and which I enjoyed a lot.

EDIT: Also, wallpaper material.

this has prompted me to have another play of the original, highly enjoyable classic. ill keep fingers crossed the sequel sticks to what made the first great, its going to be a tough job to do, like all sequels.

Leroux: Apparently, this news always comes with the mention of an Apple Arcade release of the game. I wonder, does that mean it will be an Apple/Mac exclusive? Or even an IPhone game?

Anyway, there is a trailer already.
Don't worry.

"Charles Cecil: It’s been in incredibly exciting, if somewhat hectic, month. Two back-to-back trips to California, culminated in the announce of ‘Beyond a Steel Sky’ as part of Apple Arcade yesterday. The Event at Apple Park was extraordinary. We were joined by Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Annison, JJ Abrams etc., (btw - the game features at 43 mins - https://www.apple.com/apple-events/march-2019/). Apple has always been a fantastic partner – we published the original BASS on the App Store in 2009. And just to confirm that the game is also in development for PC and Console."

I have no source for it since I copied this from another discord server but if somebody would want the source I am sure I can get it.

SirPrimalform: EDIT: Oh hang on, I remember now! You mean the FRUBBIN AWFUL BEYOND AWFUL portraits they added?
avatar
Sachys: yarp!
Don't know if you are aware but there is a community patch available for removing those awful portraits and those dots they added. Does not make it any better to include those in the first place but if you are interested in those patches that render the DCs nearly the same as the originals I could send them to you.

That's great news. I'm not entirely convinced by the graphics shown in the trailer but I'm nonetheless really looking forward to it. And of course voted!
Voted.
The original is one of my favourites.

SirPrimalform: Are you sure you're not thinking of Broken Sword 5? I remember the Broken Sword 1/2 remasters basically having the same art as the original.
avatar
Sachys: nope. the remasters is exactly what im thinking of.
avatar
SirPrimalform: Ugh, it looks like they're going with an over the shoulder camera and gamepad driven controls. I'll still play it, but I'd rather it was point and click with carefully chosen camera angles.
avatar
Sachys: considering the only two revolution made games I like are BASS and In Cold Blood, im gonna remain hopeful - though the fact theres an "Apple Arcade" version makes me less so.
point and click fan here.... no fps no3d ever, so when i heard rumor of a 'sequel' i imagined BASS classic but with high resolution, like Broken Sword II, turns out it is a fallout like game with a 3pp character walking in true fallout 3 and up style ... (✖╭╮✖) seems every old game and even decent old point n click games have to turn 3d (✖╭╮✖)

Using an existing 3d engine and scripting , only create some 3d images to look like BASS style , seems to be easier cause point n click games drawings take too much valuable time to draw, 3d makes it easy just change the skins and the game is done cause the engine can be borrowed, :D

Narp? (Great film, btw)

Darvond: So I heard, but this doesn't appear to be a known studio, and Technobabylon exists, so we'll see.
avatar
Sachys: eh?
It's a freeware game/series of games in adventure game format(made in AGS, I believe) set in/around a futuristic setting similar to B.A.S.S. Definitely worth a recommendation, imo.

In this case you really should not. Somehow it's even a shame that this great classic is given away for free. So come on - right now - download your copy. You won't be disappointed.

Voted. Played a bit of Beneath A Steel Sky but really need to get around to giving it another go and finishing it.

the thing is i HAVE played this in a time before gog existed. but i don't know to what level of completion. but you do have a point. i'll play this soon. :)
The first game taught me that freebies should not be simply disregarded without at least some basic research. There was some amazing worldbuilding in BaSS.

Apple Arcade means it won't be available on any other mobile platform (like Android) or any streaming service (like Stadia). Anything else is fair game - like PC. However, if they're willing to work out an exclusivity deal for mobile I'm pretty sure they're willing to work out one with Epic.
A classic of science fiction if there ever was one, I will be waiting for this!
