Got a very 'it sounds nice but it's not our decision' answer from Colossal Order about getting Skylines here. I had emailed them in the hopes of getting a straighter answer than asking Paradox. Guess I was wrong.

Not really that surprising given reliance on a paradox account / Steam integration of the Workshop for mods etc

Yeah. I browsed the Paradox forums, scoped out the terrain. Hell, if anything most of what I saw was pure hatred for anything not Steam. Gog doesn't get a lot of love over there. If that's the prevailing attitude, then chances look slim. Hope I'm wrong.

I really do wish Paradox would move more of their games here. I know there is some non-Steam voice around in the Paradox forums, but not enough to push them away from it, more "necessary evil" type stuff (e.g. Gigau).

Habanerose: Seen as their later games like EUIV and CKII have massive lists of DLCs, this might be one of the bigger reasons holding their release over here back.
I kind of think the argument of "there are more DLC so no release yet" is rather BS. I don't know how GOG deals with DLC on the publisher/developer end, but the user end is definitely usable. It's not great, but is usable. Overall, I think the system could definitely be improved, but if GOG is denying games because of it, that's BS, and if GOG knows that publishers/developers are delaying games, GOG should make that a major priority.

edit: Nothing against, Habanerose, just against the argument often used by publishers/developers/GOG. I also think there is somewhat of an anti-DLC culture here that I disagree with that may be part of the issue.

Paradox has publicly stated that they went Steam-only with their newer games because it's far less of a hassle to support a singular build with updates and DLCs (through the Steam client). And as for GOG doing well with DLCs, I disagree. One look at the mess that is Sword of the Stars: The Pit (with "just" 6 DLCs) is enough to convince me that releasing megaDLC monsters like Crusader Kings 2 and Europa Universalis IV is just asking for it.

Matruchus: Cities: Skylines is the one I'm really waiting for. I know its still in the early dlc cycle for paradox so it will get dlc for next 2-3 years but still would be just happy with base version (even if its only windows version) here since it has huge content already.
Care to share about the game? Got me curious....

Grargar: If Paradox released any of their games here, it would be those who aren't patched anymore or have no more DLCs to be released, so that makes Cities: Skylines, Crusader Kings 2,

Knights of Pen and Paper
CK2 is now ancient. And they are like still pumping out DLC for it???!?!

How about Knights of Pen and Paper 2?.

Yup, they still do. It's the prime moneymaker.

I have a feeling they're going to put the brakes on DLC for CK2 soon.

There's some real weird similarities with CK2 and Stellaris. My guess is their new animated avatar things they're using with Stellaris will probably be modified for CK3... just a guess. That could indicate that CK3 may already being worked on using the modified engine from Stellaris. Is it still the Clausewitz engine?

Well, I tried it out once on one map and its truly a real city builder with big emphasis on urban development aka traffic management. You have to take a lot of things in to consideration - for example just the water supply and sewage placement is extremely important since you can very easily poison the water supply :) Then you have everything from police, fireman, hospitals, clinics, schools, high schools, universities, morgues and tones of other stuff. You can build several types of roads in order to control the traffic flow which is quite hard if you don't know what you are doing. You can build train stations to get goods out of the city (produced by in city factories), tram connections, bus connections, etc.

I don't know its really Simcity without the disasters but with added traffic management. You can really do whatever you wan't. Really would love to get it here. Been looking at it on Steam for ages but I wan't a gog version.

Check some cool city video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVrnu9IGJfI

That stance by Paradox is one of the main things I dislike. Also, maybe it's just my and my friends' experiences, but I've never had any problems with The Pit. It can be a slight hassle, but I've never had a major problem with it. Still, I think GOG should look into options of improving the system. Still, I'd rather have the games here than to drive potential customers to Steam, and I think a number of people would rather have the game than have to rely on Steam.

Again though, maybe The Pit is just something that is more of a personal experience. I've never really had an issue.
