Uhh.. sucks. Well, no sale.

And that goes for Galaxy-only titles as well if that happens at some point.

:/

Ganni1987: Apparently they're seeing it as a hassle to manage 6 versions (2 per OS) of this game and decided to take the "shortcut" and wait for Galaxy to arrive for easy updates.

mrkgnao: The implications of this are dramatic.

Will Triumph expect to release Mac/Linux versions here that could be installed only through Galaxy? That is, no standalone installers?
That's a troubling idea. It would kinda undermine the whole "optional client" idea, wouldn't it?

And I LIKE the installers. So very useful for backups or for porting to a computer that has a crummy connexion (or no connexion at all, like the gaming rig in my new appartment 1 year ago. A 4-month Steam withdrawal can teach you the merits of GOG and standalone, portable installers ^^ .)

mrkgnao: It's just a matter of time until we get Galaxy-only games.

GOG will say that this way we will have more AAA games and all but a small vocal minority will either praise it or not see the problem.

It's inevitable when there are no governing principles except "more games" and "more money".
Even though I doubt it (aside from probably the online-only games), Galaxy-Only Games definitely has a ring to it.

More importantly, what icon will be used to represent such games (along the lines of the Windows, Mac, Linux, Steam, etc. icons)?

A Zodiac sign?
I'm disappointed that there is no linux version on GOG.

I can only imagine that there pipe line for creating a installer or patch is some how ... non optimized.

This means i will not buy any new games on GOG until there is a guarantee that the will deliver the Linux version if one is available.

I even fear that at some point there will be a witcher 3 version for linux on steam but not on GOG.

Since GOG is CDPR's sister company, I'm sure they guys will make a bit of effort to have on GOG everything they have on steam.

Though I believe the revenue from Steam is much bigger than from GOG. Pretty ironic, isn't it?

Well, to be fair Steam has millions of users, while most of the people I know never heard of GOG until I told them about it... So there's that...
Personally, I'm getting this feeling (this is 100% speculation, of course): the installers will not be ditched, and I don't think there will be Galaxy-only games.
Yet, I'm also pretty sure that as soon as the client is officially out every non-old game will be provided thorugh it rather than with DRM-free installers, being de facto Galaxy-tied for a certain period of time; once the updating and patching process is complete (or at least when it reaches a certain level of stability) everything will be packed up into an installer by the GOG staff.

I also get the feeling that things like this are more due to the devs' unwillingness to provide separate updates (see Age of Wonders) to save costs rather than on GOG's arbitrary decisions -though I don't doubt they would find such system quite convenient.
I'm quite sure that this aspect is also one of the main reasons that brought *everyone* to jump on the Steam wagon and lead almost the entire PC gaming into this revolting monopoly state.

Sometimes I wonder: how much is Galaxy a free choice by CDP, and how much a necessity for business? If nobody cares about you as long as you don't give them the same advantages the monopolist can provide... as always, that's an unfair battle.
And as I keep repeating to nausea, I still wonder why the EU still has not put limitations on Valve like they did with everyone else, since they are imo in clear violation of several basic principles stated by the TFEU. There is no need to provide particular proofs: just looking at their market share is more than enough.
I would like to get an official statement from GOG. All this guessing is not good for their reputation.
If the problem is on the developer side i could boycott the game instead of switching to the steam version.

Aren't Linux users supposed to use the assets and code to create their own builds and updates? I thought that was the point of Linux - DIY everything. :|

Apparently it doesn't seem to matter, The Witcher 2's latest Linux build was released in March but the GOG version is still on the February beta and we're half way through April already.

EDIT: I've sent a support ticket and got a reply within a few hours, support says they are looking into it, Hopefully won't be too long cause I would like to finish to finish it again before Witcher 3 is out.

That is worrisome.
