I was wondering what's the hold up with the Mac and Linux release here, this was one devs' comments on the official patch 1.5 comments section: Apparently they're seeing it as a hassle to manage 6 versions (2 per OS) of this game and decided to take the "shortcut" and wait for Galaxy to arrive for easy updates.

I don't know when Galaxy is coming, it could be weeks or months and if Triumph really intends on waiting for it to be released, you might not see the game until then.

Well, that is disappointing. It's not like Galaxy is coming any time soon. It's still a closed alpha.

Well, that sucks. Was going to buy while it's on sale right now ... maybe not.

Will Triumph expect to release Mac/Linux versions here that could be installed only through Galaxy? That is, no standalone installers?

err ; unless i missed something ; so why Steam has MAC + LINUX version , after all , it's just GOG which create the installer once Triumph send the data.

About Galaxy hopefully Larian didn't waited the client to be released , Divinity : Original Sins wouldn't be there.... lol

I like how they make it sound like it's on GOG, priceless. Lazy devs. Galaxy doesn't even have a Linux version, and gods know if and when it will ever get one.

Also note how they say "might", which makes me think that if they think that Galaxy still means extra work for them, they won't do that.
I have to wonder how long even the Windows standalone installers will be supported by some of these devs/ pubs.

Good point, I don't think Triumph are expecting users to run the Windows version of Galaxy with Wine to download the Linux versions. Thanks for pointing that out, I'll make sure to mention that to them.

How is Galaxy supposed to make managing different builds easier for the developer? Are they expecting GOG to magically use the Steam build or what? Triumph still have to build and maintain the game on their own, Galaxy is there to make managing games easier for the user.

I can't say for certain, as I'm not in the closed alpha, but if it works the same way the GOG Downloader does, then it shouldn't be possible.

Yes.
Takes a bit of clicking and ends up in a weird directory called "Extras" (by default), but possible. It doesn't work anything like the downloader. It works like a dumbed down browser. At the moment. I don't know for sure, but I was under the impression that clients work by pushing the installed game onto the gamer's computer, so that if everyone used clients there would no longer be a need for an installer. That would simply developers' lives.

The installer is created by GOG, so that shouldn't be the problem. And even if it wasn't that's the sort of thing you include in you build script, if you are doing it by hand you have bigger problems.

You can download standalone installers for any system through Galaxy. You can't actually install cross-system version (how would that even work). And being that standalone installers are what they are too lazy to upload in the first place, the former won't help them, assuming Galaxy linux doesn't get released any time soon.

Regardless, if GOG allows galaxy-only titles (or OS versions) like that, it would make this yet another steam. I want to believe devs were just looking for something/someone to blame, and actually had no idea what the hell they're talking about...

Oh boy, if things don't change/ improve (and somehow I doubt that they will) this is going to suck big time. Now I understand what you meant in the other thread about backups en masse. Makes me even more grateful for MaGog.

It's just a matter of time until we get Galaxy-only games.

GOG will say that this way we will have more AAA games and all but a small vocal minority will either praise it or not see the problem.

It's inevitable when there are no governing principles except "more games" and "more money".

Perhaps it's simply that they expect/were told that as part of Galaxy introduction they will have access to some more streamlined process of submitting games/updates. One can hope.

It's inevitable only if they don't see further from their noses. They can't beat Steam on their own ground, they can just lose the loyal customers. The only reason Origin and UPlay even exist is because they are funded and forced into people by fat AAA companies in the first place. CDPR doesn't stand a chance, neither does GOG on its own.

Just my opinion anyway. I need to buy a proper external disc, the way this goes... depressing.
