PaterAlf: I have a problem. Since yesterday I can no longer see attachments. Instead I get a completely white page. Everything is fine when I turn off Adelia Fundementals. Any idea what's going on?

I use Firefox 55.0.3 on Windows 7. Some other stuff that is running: Barefoot Essentials, Ghostery, Stylish, avast Online Security and uBlock Origin.
I might do.. I'm sure someone else had the same issue not so long ago, I'll have a look and see if they found a solution.

I'd like to test if the same issue occurs for me too, PaterAlf. Could you tell me a post where you can only see a white page? I am also running FF 55.0.3, BE, AF, Stylish on Win7/64.

I get a white page whenever I try to open an attachment from a forum post. Here's an example you can try (the attachment is at the very end of the post).:

Funny, it works for me. But thank you for letting me try. Maybe it is a special setting in AF that is causing the problem here?

paladin181: If I open the attachment in a new tab (middle click), it will open a blank white screen. If I just click it, nothing happens.

The problem was occurring on both my win 7 (work) and Win 10 (home) computers. It is now only occurring on my home PC as I can not replicate it on my work PC. I can not test and verify until this evening. It is most definitely something on my end, but both instances of Firefox are synced and have all the same addons. Which is the most perplexing of all.
Do you still have this issue?
If not do you know what the problem was and what fixed it?

It seems PaterAlf is having a similar problem now so there must be some underlying problem...

Have you tried turning off any of the other addons / plugins to see if there is a specific conflict?
I just had a look back through the thread and it was a conflict of some sort with Privacy Badger last time...

I know this is not helpful for you but it loads OK for me. Using AF and BE.

Yes, I've tried it in several combinations (but probably not all possible ones). Might do some more tests later (have to leave in some minutes).
I am repeating my suggestion. Maybe the options chosen in AF itself lead to the problem. There were some problems in the past depending on what you have checked inside AF.

It really shouldn't be, nothing I do should touch the attachments in any way. But obviously something is going on as it's the second time I've had reports of this kind of issue.

It seems most likely to be a conflict between another plug in and the script somewhere, but again I can't really see why.
The interesting thing is that I don't think that one of the plugins or scripts got an update the last two days. And before it everything worked fine. The only exception is Barefoot Essentials which got the YouTube update. But then it should work when I turn off Barefoot (and it doesn't).

Maybe avast Online Security? Can't find the option to turn it off, so I don't know if it would change anything.

Don't worry, I'll have a ponder about what it could be...

As I've said there's nothing I do that touches the attachments in any way, so the only thing I can think that might cause some kind of issue is a conflict caused by variable names (which shouldn't really be possible unless the plugins are creating global variables..) but there might be something else going on that could affect it somehow so I'll see.

Do you get any kind of error messages in the console (either in the forum window or the one the attachment opens in) when it doesn't work?

PaterAlf: snip
What does it show if you hover over the link? Do you get the right URL?
And what is the url you actually go to when you click on it?

For example the attachment to Hyper's post you linked above should take you to:

Does it?

Barefoot Essentials, Stylish, and uBlock Origin are unlikely to be causing the issue, have them installed in a test version of Firefox and I can see screenshots just fine with AF enabled.

I use the Disconnect add-on in place of Ghostery, and never installed avast Online Security when I was using that AV.

Wil ask if you've tried a clean profile, installing only AF and BE (using Greasemonkey I assume) initially, and then adding the rest of your addons one by one. If something in your current profile got corrupt, disabling addons won't help (much) with finding what's wrong.

Does this thing update separately from the rest of the program? As said, I've never let it install, and there should be a setting somewhere that allows you to uninstall it - find avast via Control Panel, click on "Change" and then untick this particular component (don't know where exactly it's listed in the latest version). This should remove it from any and all browsers.

If you want extra protection while online, you may want to try running your browser in Sandboxie - anything happening will be isolated from the rest of your system, and erased/removed when you close your browser.

No, I don't. I stopped using privacy badger when this conflict arose. I just re-enabled it and images seem to work ok now. So, I don't know.
