I can't help you with this, I've set updates to never, I periodically check Firefox releases, and update manually doing a custom installation.

I just updated my FF and now it's 47.0. Don't know what happened but that was the fastest way.

Maybe... I'd have to look into it. I don't think there's an easy way to retrieve the last updated date (I'm sure I've checked before) but if I can find something then I could give it a go...

You do realize that this would be the holy grail given how many problems the not showing update flags create for each user who also wants to have his/her files backuped and not (only) using Galaxy. This would just be amazing - give everything you can :)

Given that both mrkgnao and muntdefems report the exact date and time files change there definitely is a way, but no idea if it falls under
"easy". Perhaps talk to mrkgnao or/and muntdefems?

muntdefems just parses MaGog's data
afaik MaGog gets the exact file date by actually requesting the files from the server. (if you do a HEAD request or set the requested byte range to 0,0 you won't download the file, but just get the information you want from the HTTP header)

but I don't think it's feasible to do that with several hundreds of files every time you view your account page. Multiply that by the number of users of this script and you have a nice little DDOS ;)

Yeah, see what immi101 says below. It's possible to get it, but I'd have to call the changelog url (or the actual downloads) for every product on your library page. With 100 products you might just be ok... but with all products on one page you'd almost certainly crash your browser and / or get locked out of Gog for a few hours..

But I'll have a poke about and see if the changelog info is already present on the page or is called each time you open a new one (I think this is the case) or if there is any other info that would do the trick hidden about.
The download files do have a 'date' field, but it's always empty :/
I'll have a poke about with the notification system too and see if there's anything there that might help, though I'm fairly sure it's mostly server side...

Thanks for the reply. Yes, mrkgnao had experienced blocking issues several times, but that's not what I had in mind.

I was thinking more along the lines of getting that info from MaGog instead of DDOS-ing GOG, but I admit that I don't know if that would be even doable or any better of a solution.

Also keep in mind, that there are cases where files get updated without a changelog being added to the user-accounts.

It'd best, for a number of reasons, if GOG provided this feature natively, and they should have already. But it looks to be one more of those "low priority" things for them, so I appreciate you looking into it.

The issue with retrieving info from MaGog is that MaGog is not HTTPS and Gog is now, which gives loads of conflicts and warning and it doesn't like to retrieve the information.. and with mrkgnao gone now it's not likely I could even persuade him to secure MaGog to make the calls easier...

Yeah, this is true too, like the Changelog feature it probably wouldn't be perfect even if I could manage it.

True, if they could just get the notifications and updates to some kind of workable state that would help, but I think a 'recently updated' sort or filter is definitely a good idea too so you can clear the notifications but still come back later and find them.

Of course it is. With the "optional" Galaxy there would not be any need for update flags at all. But we all knew that Galaxy would not be that optional at all.

I might have an idea.... let me play around with it a bit and see where I get to. It might just be possible to build a look up table of last updated times based on the same Output from MaGog used in the 'Last Updated' thread and store, update and retrieve it from my website (therefore side stepping the HTTPS stuff) and then just use it to sort your library the same way I do the manual sort order...
