I'm pretty sure as an adult it is against the law to exclude me from buying these games; they are not Manhunter magnitude banned. Its just that they are safer with the "think of all the children!" route.

The gog_lc cookie (your country and allowed currencies) is being re-evaluated on checkout level to meet your connection location. :) So changing the cookie won't help. I use the code cookie set gog_lc GB_EUR_en

It's true, it doesn't work - I just saw the games displayed and thought it would work.

Selling games to another user isn't allowed, but trading is. Check your PM, sad german I have a deal to propose.

paladin181: You realize openly discussing ways to defeat GOG's mechanism for abiding the laws of Germany could end badly, right?

I hear that the hammer and sickle is a banned symbol in Baltic countries, does that mean Red Alert series is not allowed to be sold there?

Pherim: That's the proplem with these kind of "banned" games - it is NOT illegal to buy or own them (if you are 18 or older, of course), but depending on whether they are just "indiziert" (Put on the index) or "beschlagnahmt" (confiscated) it can be illegal to SELL them. Both Commandos (English version!) and Wolfenstein 3D are confiscated, so they cannot be sold within Germany. The other games are just put on the index, that means it is not allowed to advertise and openly sell them. Of course, when these laws were made, digital stores like GOG were not around, so now they rather completely block these titles. I don't know if it were possible to create a system that would allow Germans of legal age to buy them. Anyway, it is very unlikely that buying these games one way or another could end "badly".
Considering the big amount of porn pages that can be accessed in germany I'm sure gog will find a solution to add an age verification to the account.

I tried to set my cookie to _de, just to see what our sad german friends see. It didn't help, I still see every part of the Bethesda bundle... and now after several more tests, the site talks in russian! (Of course I had to try - for science!) :)

Of course! Nothing to do with that permanent 60-75% sale they've got.

Well, pornography is a different matter - as pornographic material is automatically put on the index in Germany, it is not allowed to publicly advertise it and sell it openly. But it is no secret that it is not difficult at all to get access to it on the internet - but as there is no advertising and nothing is sold and it technically doesn't take place in Germany, there is apparently not much that can be done. Well, other countries have resolved to block these pages completely, I guess we should be happy not to have this done here, no matter how one personally feels about pornographic content.
Anyway, the internet has certainly made it much more difficult to maintain such laws.
