This has absolutely nothing to do with games, I was just curious whether to know if anyone else ever gets agitated or suffers anxiety without music or a form of background noise? Iv had this problem for ages and have never thought about it.

I'm curious is this a normal thing or am I a bit wrong in the head? (well even more so... :D )
Nope I am sort of the same way also cannot sleep if there is silence so I turn on a movie or something

Sleeping in silence is torture. Ambient music is great for that problem.
Depends on the music or noise and sometimes it can be because of the noise or music being there.

This is twisted but I love to fall asleep to the ID channel, which is an all true crime channel. XD The narrators for those shows have this very soft soothing voice so it kind of goes by the wayside that they are discussing mass murders and mutilations. :P

You mean like The Joy of Painting? Great show when you're awake and trying to sleep. :D

Just like the Joy of Painting, only with decapitations and shallow graves. :D

Haha sounds quite appealing I must admit.

I fall asleep with either music or a DVD running. Having that been said, it depends on the situation whether or not I need something in the background. If I am reading or something like that I most the time do not but, but I need to be pretty engrossed in the thought or in the literature or else it does drive me crazy. Heck, in the car I am either talking with someone or listening to music, I wouldn't be able to take it otherwise.

I`m totally the opposite, I can`t sleep if there is any noise near me.

No judgement intended but that kind of need for "multitasking" in order to avoid anxiety sounds almost like a symptom of ADD to me. If I recall you do not really have the means to get professional help / diagnosis? If I were you I might still consider some consultation.

Sorry if that's not much help.

ADD what is that exactly? I know of ADHD, the "kids need a smack on the arse" syndrome as my granny calls it.

Yep, me too. General noise keeps me awake a fair bit, though apparently (and I have never heard it so its completely unfounded) I snore, so I try not to complain too much. But I do know of people who do need music or something to sleep. It could be something medical, it could also be to do with how you grew up as you get used to certain things. For example the first year I went to Glastonbury, many years back, we camped under a pylon and the first couple of nights there was no amount of beer and other stuff which could knock me out for that noise. After a day or two you get used to it. But getting home I couldn't sleep as the noise wasn't there. Its all adaption to surroundings as to when the sleep trigger goes.

Same thing. My understanding is that adults adjust to it in different ways. The popular stuff in kids is lack of focus, constant shifting activities and hyperactivy. Instead of that, repressing the hyperactivity and focusing oneself to act more normal can cause anxiety from the effort (it can be a learned thing done unconsciously) and this workaround tactic of having a lot of stuff happen around you is I think fairly common as an adaptative strategy. In a way the name attention deficit is a bit misleading...

Ah yeah I can relate to that. I remember when I moved in land for a few months. So much insomnia just because I couldn't hear the sea. It was an odd time in my life lol.

ADD is ADHD without the hyperactivity.
