Hi,

I am having a problem running moded games like Arcanum, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Icewind dale 1 and Planescape Torment. As soon as I mod them they won't start, however when I play games from a clean install and unmoded they work?

Anyone else experience this problem and is there a solution to this?

Many thanks.

Well that sounds like a wrongly installed mod.
I don't play those games so I haven't experienced the problem.

Are you using Galaxy?
I've installed the mods in order and I am using galaxy but I downloaded them the old fashion way and tried it that way but still no luck getting them to run. However Icewind Dale 2 doesn't seem to be affected which is odd.

I don't use Galaxy myself (nor do I typically mod my games, for that matter), but I know others have had problems properly running modded games via Galaxy -- though the complaints I've seen typically have to do with users failing to disable auto-update for the games they're going to mod, and Galaxy subsequently "correcting" the modded versions to the standard GOG installation. If that's not the issue, though, then I'm officially out of my depth. : )
Thanks I might give it a try tomorrow and see what happens

It depends largely on what these mods do.Modifying .exe files might break compatibility tweaks, if there were any, but modding assets should mostly work. I know I modded all of these games you mentioned more times I can count so it is doable ;)

What mods are you trying to install that give you troubles?
That's the funny thing I put the mods that I normally put on fix packs, tweak pack and wide-screen mod but even installing any one of these mods now stop the games from launching.

I've never had this problem before until yesterday so it's really confused me lol.
What OS are you using?
Windows 7 64bit Ultimate

Mostly repeating what some others have said above but adding my own experience as an extra data point. I've installed Baldur's Gate 1&2 and modded them with a pile of mods GOG recommended previously including the high-res/widescreen one, and the one that joins the 2 games into one mega-game. It's important if using Galaxy to disable auto-updates as suggested because software like Galaxy can't distinguish between a corrupted executable, one infected by a virus, or one intentionally modified by someone using a mod. In all cases they are "modified", but whether it is known and on purpose or not is not algorithmically determinable so Galaxy will assume "modified executable" means "corrupt executable" more or less. Having said that, my modded games launch and run fine both with and without Galaxy.

If you install a game then mod it while auto-updates are enabled however, it might overwrite the executables which in combination with other files being modded might be a broken combination. Recommendation: Disable updates, reinstall game, re-mod it. If it still fails then you have other problems probably unrelated to Galaxy.
Just tried disabling the auto update on Baldur's gate 1 and it work! HOORAY!!!

I'm now reinstalling the rest to see if they work

Thanks guys for this information.
Still having problems with Arcanum, BG II and Icewind Dale...
Well I've tried everything that I can think of and what you guys have suggested but still no luck.
Also I have noticed when I try to launch the modded games in question that don't work I get 3 identical process running and I cannot end them. I have to restart the computer every time.

Okay, that's wierd. I've modded all of those games on Win7 64 bit Professional and they all work. But I'm not using Galaxy. I've also installed tehm outside of Programs and/or Programs(x86). I have them installed on a completely different drive than C, actually. Perhaps it's something to do with permissions?
