cal74: While I agree with you that a lot of work remains to be done to have a fully updated interface and that they should improve the communication on this matter, do you really think it'll change the reaction of the people complaining.
eiii: Perhaps when you do it in a proper way?
If you change your system and remove a feature without any forewarning, which a lot of people had used, are you surprised when people complain? Really?
If GOG would have thought a bit ahead they at least would have given people a warning together with the unbundling that manual sorting of the library will not be supported in the future (and would have fixed the automatic sorting before). So people at least would not have to put work on resorting their library after the unbundling.
If you change your system and know that the import of the old data is not ready yet and a roll out will interrupt the communication of a lot of people do you roll out that change? Really?
No, you do not if you have any respect for your customers.
Seriously ... the general lack of thinking ahead, of planning and coordination, of quality control and testing on GOG is just frustrating.
To an extent I think I understand it. Before changing my degree I was originally going for a form of engineering. To this day, some of my very good friends are either programmers/engineers. This reminds me of when an engineering person I know would describe somethingas better from a technical standpoint and explain the new features. I would then ask questions about why was it less user friendly or why could I no longer do X and they would just be stunned.silent as to why I disliked the new gizmo. Not all engineers, but a fair few, think in terms of math and reason without really bothering to think of the human element. Some companies are very good about making sure they either have engineers/programmers to bridge teh gap or technically inclinded non-engineers in other areas to help provided feedback and balance. And again, please don't read this as all engineers/programmers don't understand the human element of dealing with the public just that there are a lot that don't..
I feel like conversations about the new library are going like this:
customer: My product does not do X,y, or z anymore.
Staff: But it now does r,s and t so it is now better. Please familiarize yourself with these improvements.
Customer: R,s, and t are all well and good but I am looking for a way to do w,y, and z. Could you reimplement them please.
staff: In an effort to better assist you we have added r,s, and t.. If you have any questions about how r,s, and t work we'd be happy to assist you.
Customer: But all I want is to be able to do x, y, and z. Can you assist me in doing those please?
Staff: In order to better improve you experience x, y, and z were removed so that we could provide the superior access to r,s,t. we apologize for any inconvenient this may have caused.
Customer: How does removing the features I use help me do things better? I'll I am looking for here is the same level of service and content as I had access to before. I am not asking for anything that I was not previously granted.
Staff: And by removing those things we can now better assist you and give you more control of you experience.
Customer: *brain anyersm sets in* How do I have more control for a better experience when I do not have access to the features I want *blood starts leaking from ears due to frustration*
Staff: Because we have improved out service and made it better.
It just feels like the staff didn't think through the reaction well and hasn't really comprehended why people want certain features. It's a shame because this is really the only site I buy games from. I want them to do well. I just really hate losing some of the functionality from the library or having the functions be done in more esoteric ways that are *better* to someone thinking in engineer terms. In all the years I have been coming here this is really the only one that actually annoyed me. Though galaxay locked multiplayer (no lan or other access to multiplayer) is something that would set me off. Cause lacking multiplayer is drm. Overall I like this place, but I really find the new library awkward and less helpful.
