From a bit of research, I found that it could be due to permissions. Be sure that you are an admin, run the file as an admin and if that doesn't work, see if you've got some other funky permissions options. That's all I'm seeing right now.

Here's a great page with all the things that can cause it. It looks like it could be a lot of things, including faulty RAM.

Any specific games have the problem? Any that do work?

Not one game. I'm currently trying with Call to power 2 and it does not work at all.
Also Pharaoh and Sid Meiers alpha centauri.

I'll check this out but it looks like things that I've already checked. I can assure you, it's not about RAM.

If it's an older game, try changing the compatibility to XP, quite often they run as admin but they don't have XP compatibility enabled...

And since there's also some older installers that can't get updated and still try to install to c:\Program Files\GoG Games\, i'd ask where it's installed as well just to be sure.
Seems like a .NET Framework issue

Try repairing the system excecuting this commands in order:

* Start > type "command prompt" > right click > run as administrator.

* Type in the command window: chkdsk C: /f /r

* It will say something about the drive being used and if you want to check it at next reboot, so press Y (Yes) and enter.

* Reboot your system, it will start checking for error in the disk/filesystem, it can take from 30 min to several hours, so wait patiently.

* When the scan/repair finishes, system will reboot itself and boot into Windows.

* Now repeat the command prompt thing: (Start > type "command prompt" > right click > run as administrator.)

* Now type this command: sfc /scannow

* Wait patiently while it completes, it can take from 30 mins to 1 hour, at the end, it will show you a description of what it found, reboot your system to complete repairs.

That should fix the issue, if not, try to rollback your system to an earlier state using System Restore utility.

that didnt work.
I only have 1 earlier stage, and it's after I had this problem, so it's no use.
I know the webpage below mentions XP but there are a number of possible solutions listed on it.

If you have no luck, then tech support maybe able to help, just make a ticket( just remember they will be closed over the weekend)

Did not work
Almost everything does not work or it's for windows XP ( I'm using 7), I will try the rest later/tomorrow.
breaking news: TZAR works.
I don't know why but it does.
So..?
:(((
Have you checked your system for malware and virus trouble? I would recommend using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM):

http://www.malwarebytes.org

(It's free.) Also, what are you using for anti-virus/firewall?
Do you have Direct X 09c installed? It is necessary for many old games to run on new systems (Win 7 possibly 8)...

Hope that helps...
