JohnnyNT: Well I have Comodo Anntivirus, switched it to "game mode" once, launched the game, worked ok. It learned the pattern so now I don't have to switch to "game mode" anymore. Still getting random crashes though (memory errors, most often when loading the save).
No luck with that here, but oddly running it in Comodo Sandbox does run the game, albeit with a choppy cursor that leaves trails for about 5 seconds every time it moves. Not ideal! Also renamed the intro movies, but got to see the first cutscene, which was nice.
I'm getting a black screen as well. Has there been a fix for this yet?

Update:
I just tried the fl_highcolor_patch for Final Liberation and it works! It's located on this site:

This is a pretty reliable workaround.

Make sure you use the patch's Browse button to point it at Epic40k.exe, because it will let you patch with no target. The fl_highcolor_patch worked for me on an XP virtual machine. Consistently under my black screen (after the SSI splash) was an error message:
Application Error: Epic40k.exe
The Instruction at 0046c5a7 referenced memory at 0146a000
The memory could not be written

After running the patch, the error's gone and I get the intro movie after the SSI splash, followed by the playable game. There's a nice explanation at the top of the patch's source code: "The game is 16-bit color except for the movies which play back in 8-bit. So we'll stomp the dd->SetDisplayMode( 640,480,8 ) call and then tell the smack player to output in 16-bit color." Sure beats disabling the videos!
Hey guys, I was having the same problem (CTD after blackscreen, directly after ssi logo) and I've cured it for me. Adding the fl_highcolor_patch, AND Aqrit's DDWrapper (with the only enabled option being ForceDirectDrawEmulation=1, leave everything else set to 0) did the trick perfectly, and now the game runs practically flawlessly!

This actually works!

Tarm: Reboot your computer and do nothing else except start the game. Nothing. Just go to that and click start game when you've rebooted..

Nurse: Doesn't help, I have the same exact results as before.

EDIT : Fixed it. The forced supersampling was an issue. You can switch it off in the nvidia driver menu (DSR).
How can i do this?
