Every time I try to launch the game it crashes, the opening cinematic deosn't have time to start before it crashes, i've tried different ways to fix this like editing the ini files, changing the amount of cores the game uses, trying to launch after changing the compatiblity setting and disabling the in-game overlay. nothing that i have done has worked and I don't know what to do.

Use the d3d9.dll that is provided in the link below. All you should have to do is drop the d3d9.dll into the game folder and then the game should boot properly after that.

It should also work for Windows 10. Try some of the other d3d9.dll's at the link below.

What are your PC specs?

In the past I never had an error message pop up for FO3 when it used to crash.

Do you have Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA graphics?

I started playing the Steam version of FO3 using Intel 4400 & had to use a handful of fixes to get it working. Right now I am only using the GOG version with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with no issues so far.

Dang just bought the game and I'm having issues too. I thought the gog version would solve the crashing issue but so far it's doing the same as the Steam version for me. I also did the whole ini stuff and compatibility mode/windowed mode. I just wanna play Fallout 3 :(

Have you tried adding the d3d9.dll to the FO3 game folder? If not try the one provided in the fist link below. If that one does not work the next thing to try is downloading one from the second link until you can find one that works for you.
