As the title says, the next game from Logic Artists, Expeditions: Viking will be released on April 27th, 2017 (announced on February 9).

There is currently no GOG entry for the game - I assume it's coming here as well on that date?

Would be good to get some confirmation on this, as I would have thought it would be in the upcoming games list by now...

I for one am definitely looking forward to this game. Hopefully this time more people find out about it, as I still think that the previous Expeditons: Conquistador deserves to be known a lot more than it is. E:C easily beats many games on writing alone, including certain recent highly-hyped RPGs from well-known companies.

Like Mass Effect Andromeda :)

I really loved Expedition Conquistador and played it three times now. Just the different characters and behaviour of your companions is worth it to be played again with a different set in the group, depending on your decisions.
This is what I hoped Andromeda would be like...

I was actually thinking of Torment: Tides of Numenera. It's not a bad game as such, just expected so much more from it - that's what happens when one markets a game as the "spiritual successor of Planescape: Torment". From what I've heard about Andromeda the disappointment is probably similar...

GOG logo is in the going gold/ launch trailer, so presumably is coming here.

(won't bother linking the trailer, it's literally 15 seconds including splash screens)
I am looking forward to this (just loved Conquistador) - lets hope it gets a Day 1 release here.

And looking at the screenshots for the game it looks like they may have improved the battle hex visuals. That was the one thing that bugged me with Conquistadors, I sometimes had a hard time spotting enemies on the hexes with the muted red colour they chose to use but I guess that did make it a little more realistic :)

Same here - IMO it's one of the most underrated and unknown games released recently. The fact that it's much closer to reality than all the other RPGs out there (with even weird stuff having potentially some kind of logical, real-world explanation) made it truly unique.

The camping wasn't too bad either - apparently they were going to change it significantly but so far this hasn't really been shown in trailers.

The combat I kind of liked already, but they've improved how shields work which was my main beef with it.

I think they've improved the graphics in that there's more of a "close-up" when you're in a settlement or something.

Well spotted! Didn't notice that at first because of the crap covering that part of the screen. So hopefully it'll be here day 1 as well...

Camping generally happens less than in Conquistador, but is more involved and there's more to do. It's during camping you craft armour and weapons, for example, as well as repair your damaged equipment.
The injury system has also gotten deeper, with individual limbs now able to be injured, which have different effects, depending on the type of injury and the severity, but the characters that are injured are still able to fight this time around, just with severe penalties.
Scouting has been changed so there's now a chance it spawns pickups on the campaign map, that you then have to spend time getting to, if you want them.

All of this sounds very interesting, thanks for the information!

There were times when I thought it a tad silly that someone who had very light injury couldn't fight, so being able to fight even while injured is good if I'm willing to live with the penalties.

The weapon crafting/repair sounds interesting too - I guess this changes that hassle-free-but-exploitable system from Conquistadors where you just had "equipment points" and you could magically re-allocate points whenever you wanted to.

Camping/scouting changes seem interesting too. I've got way more questions but I know enough to get this, I think I can wait 6 days or so...

At any rate, I'm definitely looking forward to this game.

I really liked the fact that I could do this as I'm not the best player at managing things. I discovered that this aspect really helped me to enjoy the game more so I do hope it will still be there in E:V.

Looking forward to release date and finding out more :)

The crafting system does share some similarities with Conquistador. We still have a generic equipment resource (Now called Salvage), but instead you now choose the type of weapon you want to make specifically, and then the salvage you can spend is divided among 3 stats (All weapons have this). The interaction with spending the salvage is pretty much identical to Conquistador.
The amount of salvage you can spend on an item is now dependent on the skills of the person crafting the item (As well as how much Salvage you have available), instead of being tied to the class of a character.

Can we still hope for events during camping with your companions?

Yes, there are some in.

Thanks for the answer - this sounds ideal, I liked the fact that at the start of a battle you could equip your soldiers even if they didn't have any equipment on them by taking it off other soldiers who did.

Really looking forward to picking up Vikings :)

Sounds really interesting - still not as ridiculously complicated as most RPGs, and now crafting skills play a bigger role (instead of just being used to make traps etc.).

Excellent. These were some of the best parts of the game. I'll never forget that one moment in Conquistadors when that racist asshole goes and... well I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't played that game, but anyone who has played it will likely know what I'm talking about. I don't think I've ever wanted to kill one of my own team members so much in any game ever.

Normally I just laugh at most so-called "tough choices" and events in games, but that one really got to me.
