I am extremely grateful for the fan fix which makes eador somewhat playable, although there is still plenty of stutters and music problems.

But someone, please tell me how gog.com is allowed to sell this piece of crap? I mean the game is unplayable on most newer OS and computers?

I just don't understand how there is no official fix for this, I didn't pay a lot for the game, but this is a disgrace.

The whole point of gog.com is to make these issues go away for newer computers no? Why is there no backlash against gog.com? Yes we love the company and they do mostly right by us, but surely this cannot be acceptable?

What am I missing? Surely I must be missing something as I cannot see any complaints about this broken game ? Why is this accepted ?

Never had any problem with the game with my brand new computer (Provided I don't run other "heavy" softwares at the same time). And when I see the tactical discussions on this forum, I tend to think I'm not the only one.

Calm down, man. I can't run Fallout 2 on my computer without some pretty extensive tweakings, but I don't rant about that "piece of crap". I've already had to throw away brand new, 49 Euros games because they wouldn't run, and the support was inexistent, while it is quite helpful here. We're talking about computer games. Shit happens.

Because it works for most of people. It's is playable for probably almost everyone and it only has performance troubles for some but it works and there is workaround to fix them.
So why GOG shouldn't sell the game? They should deprive everyone of the game, because some people have fixable troubles. (I do have these troubles btw. I have to limit CPU power to 50% every time I play)
Agreed, they should have provided some of the workarounds and not rely on customers to fix it.

But I am not too angry, since the workaround was extremely easy and now it runs flawlessly. Simply reduced max cpu speed in power settings to 70% and set the graphics to 16bit in the eador.cfg. Also this is now officially my best game of all time so I am kinda glad they sold it to me.
I'm running Windows 7 and I don't have any problems. What OS is it causing trouble for?
Works perfectly here, even lets me Alt-Tab in and out! (something which about 70% of games fail at no matter their age >.>)
Oh the humanity! The ego of some... The fact that it does not work for you, it does not mean it does so for everybody. News flash: there are other 'masters' in the broken world, you are not the only one...

Just adding my voice to the others, it works perfectly in all three of my new computers...
I know I was arrogant and brash, but for instance all my friends who have tried this needs to use the community fix to play, and even then its not really playable. The game freezes, the sound gets messed up all the time.

I just wanted a reaction, thats why I wrote so harshly, because its pretty clear that even though for many people the game works fine, this is a special case and pretty significant number is having problems. Of course not selling the game would be foolish, but with with so many people having problems, I don't think demanding a fix is out of line.

Most games have some issues for people, but I do people this issue is larger than normal, and although its a small and cheap game, they really should look into and fix it for us that is having a big issue. I don't see how that is too much to ask ? Also you could look at it the other way around, just because it works for you, doesn't mean it works for everyone else.

But I guess I should have used a another title like why is the framrate\sound issue not fixed yet. And guys, there is a reason the FIX thread is one of the biggest, if not the biggest thread in here.

Even though I am the biggest fanman (yeah manly) of this game, I totally agree with you on this. I am actually surprised that some people here report that it would be working flawlessly on modern computers. I thought the problem was the allegro base of the games programming, and it would be impossible to fix, only to work around with by reducing CPU speed (which is what the "fix" does).
Maybe they do not notice that the units and moving around slowly? I didn't notice it when I started playing until I read about the problem and tried the fix. I was amazed how fast everything moved afterwards.
Or maybe their modern computers are just below the threshhold? I have a 2500k and since I reduced the speed by 70% I would assume that a CPU thats a little slower, like maybe a 2100 would work fine.
The game came out 2009, even the newest computers back then were probably about 70% of the 2500k, so I can see how it was unnoticed for such a long time.

Yes of course it 'must' be us, poor idiots, who cannot notice if the game does not work properly. Alternatively, it 'must' be that our 'new' computers are just a pile of junk from a decade ago, and yet we did not realize that. Aren't we in 2003, after all?

I have no reasons not to believe that you, your friends, and many others have experienced problems with this game (or any game at all). You paid for a product and you have any right to demand that it works correctly. Even though your complain is legitimate, to write what you wrote without a single piece of evidence (how do you know that 'the game is unplayable on most newer OS'?) will not only give you a reaction, but will undermine your credibility.
Well I've isntalled this game on two computers. One brand new running Win 7 64bit in a 8 core processor with Radeon gfx card and one older laptop running Win 7 32 bit on integrated Intel hardware. Both have worked flawlessly out of the box. My brother has installed this on his relatively recent computer also running Win 7 64bit with nVidia gfx card and again - flawless with no fixes applied.

I'm not saying you don't have problems - I'm illustrating how wrong your outburst was. To assume that many or even most people have problems from your own anecdotal evidence is flawed. Just as assuming from my anecdotal evidence that no one has any problems would be wrong.

But at the end of the day it does seem like it works fine for a lot of people - why on earth should GOG not sell it then?

Edit: As for not noticing, my sound is 100% perfect, my input is flawless, and I see no stuttering. I cannot know if my units are moving slower, but they certainly don't seem slow to me.

I think only the CPU speed matters, not the graphics cards or the OS.

And mbpopolano, I was only brainstorming, geez, not trying to insult anyone. In case you didnt notice, I was one of those "poor idiots" as you call them, who didnt notice the slowdown before I saw how fast the combat could be in this video a gog user made demonstrating the slowdown and the workaround for it:

Has worked great for me, Win 7 2 yr old PC. Only music issue I have is when I run it with Steam running in background. If I exit steam before I play this, sound is great...
I have had no problem whatsoever running Eador: Genesis on my 64-bit Windows 7 machine.
It's kind of fun, but I have the opposite problem.

This game works fine on my new powerful computer, but my older pc has a lot of issues. So I'm only killing time on my newer pc while waiting for MotBW.

However I can easily follow your frustration; something you pay for should work!
