I did experience problems after installing the game (before and after applying the patch). Windows 7 64 bit.

Basically it would get 'stuck' at the first title screen (or maybe it was too slow). Pressing ESC would take you to the menu screen but the mouse would move sloooowly and music skipping. Reading the forums I quickly saw two solutions. One, running some dxwnd.exe program. Two, lowering CPU setting in power management. I used the second solution as I didn't want to run some random software, so I created a new power profile, set CPU to 50%, ran the game again... and it worked perfectly. Game is awesome too so far (though I guess I suck, final 'tutorial' battle I died and had to come back with fresh troops to finish the enemy (I was a wizard). Then in first shard, I died in the second battle lol.

Thank you very much for your helpful answer. :)
I had the same problem as you and setting CPU to 50% helped me as well. It now works perfectly.

Russonc: Has worked great for me, Win 7 2 yr old PC. Only music issue I have is when I run it with Steam running in background. If I exit steam before I play this, sound is great...
Hey Russonc-Thanks so much. I was loading up Eador in anticipation of getting Broken Worlds and I noticed that my PC (i7 CPU, 12 GB RAM with nVidia 570 GTX) was stuttering, with a laggy mouse and choppy music. I had Steam open at the time (I was deciding on whether I should get Broken Worlds from Steam or GOG...I went with GOG).

I was looking in the forum (hadn't gotten to the 'FIx' thread yet) and came upon your post. I completely exited Steam and the game now runs smoothly.

Thanks again.

In edit-Win 7 Pro, 64 bit.

Second Edit-Spoke too soon...doh! Crashes when I try to start the game. :).

I've had no problems with this game on my windows 7 box. In fact, it's been one of the most stable games I've played. Not sure what your configuration is.
