I have been enjoying playing Eador: Genesis. Today I tried the new game Eador Master of the Broken World. Please note that I started out pre-disposed to favor MOBW as it had been billed as Genesis with improved visuals and a better save system. Much to my surprise my initial analysis is as follows:

1. User Interface: advantage Genesis.

Its harder to choose actions for your heroes. In addition, it was easy in Genesis to find the requirements for each building. In MOBW it is much harder. As a matter of fact I had to restart Genesis to find out what was needed in MOBW.

2. English Manual: advantage Genesis.

The manual that shipped with MOBW is very little help - no unit or spell specific data. The google English translation of the Russian language manual for Genesis that I found on the internet had all the right basic information on units, spells, items, etc.

More later as the evaluation continues.
agree
The user intertface was indeed more lucid and easier to navigate in genesis.
It also bothers me that movement points is not shown directly on units in battle as it was in genesis.

Wow what a cluster fuck. How can you take a game that already has a shitty UI and make it even more shitty?

movement points are not shown in battle? holy f... Good thing i canceled preorder. Those devs deserve nothing. How can you possibly remove movement points in battlefield. Thats absurd..

So ... you don't have the game and you make conclusions and decide what people deserve or not deserve without even checking statements for yourself? Bold move ...

Do i need to play the game to state that:

movement points should be in the game!
movement points are neccessary for proper playing

Really? Are you even serious about what you are asking?
MOVEMENT POINTS ARE IN THE GAME.

Nothing is missing from this game except multiplayer for now.

Basically your choice is do you play genesis which is final patched but has an extremely long grindy campaign.

Or bw which is new and has more reasonable campaign with more variety of shards.

The UI is just different. BW has tool tips (done right) etc and other modern ui conventions, genesis is old school.

I am. Simply because the movement wide of the unit is seen on the grid and you have only one action per unit and turn. Also the movement speed is on the detail window of the unit. So ... clever to play the parrot on someones statements without checking yourself? I'm quite happy with the game. There are indeed issues in the game, most seem to be rather trivial. The big issue is the multiplayer part, the rest seems to be minor or cosmetic to me.

One last word: Having knowledge first hand is needed to proper criticize someone or something :-P

I suppose you are right.. i did however canceled preorder when i heard there is no combat music. And ive read someone said there is no ambience(sound) when you play the game..
You are paying $20 for new (but not good) graphics, a worse UI, and a whole array of serious bugs and issues which will make you have to repeatedly redo battles, exit and reload the game, or crash out of the game abruptly. Nothing new to the actual gameplay has been added. It is simply a graphics, UI, and inadvertently, bugs update to Genesis.

Yeah, I even like Genesis' graphics more. They may be 2D, but they are very well drawn and distinctive. MotBW's graphics on the other hand look rather bland, especially the 2D elements. Just look at the commander portrait here (bottom left)...

The UI is not "just different", the UI is a big step backwards.
It was much worse before beta testers complained. I hope it will improve via patching.

The campaign has actually been made significantly faster to play through. In genesis about 3 out of 4 battles did nothing to advance the plot, instead just being random conquest.
Also genesis forced you into ironman mode (only one save and it was auto deleted if you lost), MOTBW lets you have many saves you can revert to
There are also some new features like "type shards" (world of rust, world of crystal, etc)

Also, while the new engine added some bugs, it is far more playable than genesis which required you to downclock your CPU to even play

For all its warts, MOTBW is the clear choice

I began playing Genesis only a couple of days ago before I started with MoBW. And I've to say the UI is different but not worse. My biggest complaint is that some UI elements are just to well hidden. For example the "advanced construction UI". All available buildings are ordered and shown on one screen. Reguirements are easily navigatable this way.

There is also a special exchange window to trade items between heros. In another thread someone complaint that is was missing.

There is a lot of room for improvement, though.

Yeah, you complete tutorial shard and you get all Keys of Truth. Game over, you won.
