Hi all,

Is there a specific reason/bonus when you explore a hex and attack every event (that's attackable) compared to first explore a hex for the full 100% and then enter all the explored area's and defeating them one at a time?

(Apart from the obvious fact that you gain EXP exploring without realy having to do anyting... Or is this an exploit?)

Well it'll cost you two turns per site if you first explore province province 100% ignoring sites. I'm pretty sure some sites have negative effects (income, mood, corruption) while they exist found or not and I've read exploring 100% helps with population mood and speeds up population growth.
You mean two turns compared to one turn when directly acting on them when found? Is there any 'negative' thing about have a bucket load of turn during a game? (campagin wise)

Well, you get a 'time bonus' (or penalty) to your score at the end. I understand that score can be converted to energy at a later point, so there is a negative. More importantly, though, you're giving your opponent time to build up their forces, so they're stronger when they encounter you.

On the other hand, if you investigate something then you won't explore anything after finding it that turn. In other words, you'll generally only actually explore 1% of the province, rather than the rather larger amount you'd explore if you ignored it. That's my understanding, anyway.
I don't know if this has anyhting to do with this but what I'm doing atm is:

Explore every available hex for 100%, retreating from everything (except the ones I can't/should't), gain XP/lvl up, and now (I'm only in the beginning of the campaign map) defeat every found location. I'm a completionist so I need/want to do every questt and visit/defeat every location.

I've just started to play the game this morning on Beginner to get the know the game but doing the above already got me to lvl 24, found myself a Golem (Hugely overpowerd it seems, in the beginning at least) and some really good scrolls. But doing to above kinda feels like cheating the game or someting. I think I'm going to krank the difficulty up a notch or two because of this...

After visiting/defeating all the locations so far two villages seem to get discontent quite fast... Going to check if this is just bad luck or has got something to do with the way I 'treat' the game

What's their population? If it's just 'one or two' it sounds like a race that doesn't like you. Dwarves are especially bad for this for some reason, and (rather more understandably) orcs won't like being governed by you if you're good. Centaurs are also another issue.

Later in the campaign, you'll get ways to reduce unrest. For now, though, you may have to accept that you'll have to reconquer them/ignore those provinces. Alternatively, though, you can station your hero there when they're about to rebel, and forcibly put down the rebellion :) After a few tries, they'll generally improve their mood naturally.
While you explore, your opponent have this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDXv9qk-x9M

Petrell: I've read exploring 100% helps with population mood and speeds up population growth.
Max population reachable with 70% explored.
Doesn't have influence on growth rate and mood.
Have some effect on events (some can happen only in unexplored provinces)

Exploring will be halted upon finding site, doesn't matter if you investigate it.

I would add to downsides
1. you can find similar sites with similar guard but with different amount of enemies.
Imagine - you explore province, find 3 tombs with undead, 4,5 and 6 enemies. Later on would be easier to go 4-5-6, but you can't distinguish them. So, you can spend turns on "oh, 6", "crap, 5", "finally 4". Or you want to save 4 for second hero, and get, right, "crap, 4".
2. First ring, basically - for second hero. Your first hero must clear available sites in demesne and move to second ring.

Wow...whats the "offline championship" ? By custom site you mean modded? How the hell did he manage all that in Turn 23?

Without proper LAN you can compete only in speed of reaching target. As target of this "championship" was chosen modded site, you saw it's guard.

As for exp/items: get spider ->clear 4 dragon lairs.

Though "championship" would be exaggeration - 5-6 players usually. But some got nice prises like named artifacts - Scales of Chassarth, Book of Necrus.

It can be very dire in the early game because it slows you down. IMPE it’s generally more important to scout around and find where everything is on the strategic map before you allocate resources to exploring the individual provinces... of course, once you have the enemy bottled up then it’s a different story.
If you leave sites intact it's easy to complete missions later. If you get a crystal mission to kill 10 goblins, and you have three goblin sites in your demesne, you'll finish in no time.

On the other hand, if you get a moonstone or dark cave mission, and you have 20 enchanted pools or dark caves, it might take you a long time to finish those missions.

Something to consider. You might want to keep a single instance of certain kinds of sites to use for missions: thieves guild, enchanted pool, dark cave, slugs (maybe more than one of these if you want a lizardman alliance), etc.

So this is an official contest and the prizes are personal mods for the game? Do you have a link, I want to try and check it out with a translator.
Ok so I see how you can use a spider and crossbowman to get dragon phatz, but how did he get "spider-ready" by turn 18? I just tried a commander with crossbowmen, and by turn 18 I had...crossbowmen. :D
The spiderbuilding and all those crossbowmen are like 3000 gold. I do realise that this was probably the optimal run of many tries, but I am nowhere close!

Winner did this in 20 turns:
0. Hire scout, attack orcs
1. Paladin's cuirass from battlemages
2. Hire warrior, got ritual "Creation".
3. Got ethereal crossbow from "Creation". [I don't know how much times he did reload]

Heh, seems winner's name was lost in translation - SunnyRay became Sunbeam.

Very cool, I'll check it out. Didn't know you could get stuff that good from creation! Need to remember to use it more often.
