I start playing this game, I finished 2 worlds from the campaign, it's great, but I have a problem with the sound/music.

The sounds and music are stuttering. Also the units are moving kind of slow on the battlefield, even if I maxed the speed from the menu.

My OS is Win 7 64 bits, and my PC is quite powerfull: I5 2500K processor and Radeon 6950.

What can I do?
Thank you for your time!

I wonder how many soundcards do you have?

Also maybe you should try DxWnd?

I think you should post your problems on this forum, since there are a lot of people who knows Eador: Genesis inside out.

I only have 1 soundcard (the one from the motherboard). All other games, old or new, are playing just fine.

What is this DxWnd?
I'l try to post on that forum if I manage to create an account there :).
Thanks for reply!

This is the well known slowdown bug with fast CPUs. I have the same processor as you and the game runs fluid when I reduce the max cpu power to 70%.

How to do it here:

Summary: open power management in the control settings. change the setting.

This keeps coming up. No idea why gog does not add this under support for Eador or at least in some sticky thread.

I have found that tweaking the .cfg file values solves the problem on some systems, but this doesn't work on all of them. The two main ones to try are:

"Sound Buffer", which defaults to 20000. Try it at 40000

"Sleep Time", which defaults to 50. Try it at 100 or even 200.
Reducing graphics to 16bit in that file also helps.
Yeah there are a lot of helpful advices and different methods works for different people. I guess there should be a topic about it. I think I'll create one on the eador.com forum.

It doesn't work. Reducing graphics to 16bit doesn't help either.

I'll try DxWnd and I'll be back.

Thank you for trying to help me.
Reducing the CPU power is the only reliable workaround for this problem.

Dxwnd won't help, thats for a different issue. (the "Cannot initialize gfx" error)
I've finally found out what was the problem. I had Google Chrome browser running on backround. That's why I had sound distortion.
The solution was posted on the Eador Games support page but I failed to see it until now :).
Uh so the well known solution of throttling cpu power of this common problem did not work for you?
If another program is interfering with the game (Steam certainly isn't the only one to do this) then dealing with that program is probably the better option.

I didn't lowered my CPU speed. I don't like to constantly modify the CPU speed depending on what I'm going to play.
I usually close all programs (including internet browsers) before starting a game to obtain maximum of framerates, but I didn't think that Eador Genesis will be affected by Google Chrome :).
So is it really solved then? I bet the animations are still sluggy even if the sound is better. I tried messing with various background programs and while it affected the music slightly, the graphics did not get faster untill I slowed the 2500k down to 70%. With 70% you can run everything in the background.
It is 2 clicks, make a shortcut to power management on the desktop, then you just have to click on it, then select the other plan.

Yes, the framerates are also good.
Unfortunately I rage quit the game...... I was about to win one scenario from the campaing, thinking about launching the final assault when a weak enemy hero managed to capture my capital. I didn't give him importance, I thought I had some troops in capital. It seems that I didn't have any....and now I can't go 1 turn back because the scenario isn't available anymore :)
