Hi!

Found this thread on Google looking for a modern solution to installing the editor - tried to get it working and it looked promising but I've hit a snag.

I chucked the files from inside dkedit.exe and the KeeperFX DLLs into my Keeper Gold folder, but the Editor.exe is failing to load. I get a black screen for a few seconds and then get booted back to my desktop. I tried Run As Administrator as well, no dice.

Anyone else have this issue?

EDIT: Rather majorly, in doing so, I think Keeper Gold is refusing to run at all now. It's showing the "?" screen on start-up and won't proceed to the game. Help very much appreciated :(

This post is made specifically for GOG users:

As for KeeperFX, don't throw it in the GOG folder, just put it in a separate KeeperFX folder and use launcher.exe to finalize installation (point it to your GOG folder and it will copy over the few files it needs to confirm you own a legal version).
After that you can remove your GOG folder altogether.

As for making maps, using the ADIKED editor takes a little bit of getting used to, but if you know how to Press F1 to read instructions it will go a lot faster and with a whole lot more options.
Find it here:

I have the original EA game disk but couldn.t install it on windows 10.
I have tried everything listed in the forums to get the editor working as well.
No luck other than installing the GOG version of the game with no editor,

HaHa I now have the game working with the editor... Simples...

1/ installed GOG version. ( mine is to D:\GOG Games\Dungeon Keeper Gold)
2/ Copied all cd contents and overwrite the GOG install.
3/ Copied the contents of the editor directory to the game directory (D:\GOG Games\Dungeon Keeper Gold)
4/ My new Keeper.CFG file as follows. (Edit install path ONLY for editor - leave C:\ alone for game play)

Rem install the Rem command before the line that is not needed

Rem this line when you want to use the editor
INSTALL_PATH=C:\

Rem this line when you want to play the game
Rem INSTALL_PATH=D:\GOG Games\Dungeon Keeper Gold

INSTALL_TYPE=MAX
LANGUAGE=ENG

All now works fine. As long as you remember to change the CFG file.

The reason for the 2 install paths is because the editor is running in windows 32bit and needs to know where the files are under windows but when running the game it actually runs under Dosbox using Dos4gw and your game directory is auto-mounted as C:\

Hope this helps - enjoy your game.
i am able to get the editor working myself but, it runs way too fast to be easy to work with. i have the original discs(normal release and gold edition). any solution to slow it down?

You could try 'Advance game loader' or `DxWnd` to slow it down.
Also, there's some other editors to try: https://lubiki.keeperklan.com/html/dk1_tools_mapedit.php
