Whoever came up with this little gem just screwed my gameplay right into the trash.

Game was running just fine under the Character Respec Mod v1_6-14.dazip file, it would minimize rarely but never crash.

Now I cant play for more then 5 minutes.

Found out if Galaxy did patch this and you have issues with previous saved games under mod, you can roll back:

Go to >Manage Installations>Configure>Uncheck auto install updates, then check the 1.05(A) and OK. This will roll it back to a version the above mod will work with.

The fact that this patch came in 13.11.24 (TWO WEEKS AGO!) and still no fix is insane. What the hell is going on with GOG?
Yeah, they totally screwed performance for everyone - the game was prone to crashing already, but their 'fix' didn't improve anything. Limiting the CPU just tanks performance. You can change the affinity back by going to the details tab in the task manager and using all cores.
I think this is relevant to me. Just fired up the game and it did an auto update. Then the game repeatedly crashed on launch, I have not been able to uninstall it completely so I can't see where to go from here. Any ideas? I will never allow gog to auto update any of my games.
It seems that the previous version of the game has been reinstated, at least in the offline version.
I have been unable to load any of my saves after the update. The game keeps on crashing for any attempt to load any saves. FWIW, here is what I did to get back to a working state:

1. Install any pending Windows Updates
2. Install latest NVIDIA PhysX System Software (nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/physx/physx-9-23-1019-driver/)
3. Install latest NVIDIA App (nvidia.com/en-us/software/nvidia-app/)
4. Uninstall and Re-install the game using the Offline Backup Installer
5. Turned off Nvidia Game Overlay and GOG Overlay
6. In "GOG Galaxy\Games\Dragon Age Origins\bin_ship\": Rename DAOrigins.exe to DAOrigins.exe.backup
7. Download and extract the patch file from steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=233222451, under the "Pre-patched .exe" header, or Do-It-Yourself
8. Place the DAOrigins.exe patch file in "GOG Galaxy\Games\Dragon Age Origins\bin_ship\"
9. Right-click that file > Properties > Compatibility. Set to Compatibility Mode to Run under Windows 7

That's it. I have been able to load my saves with no crashes now so far, even with the graphics set to max (Graphics Detail Very High, Anti-Aliasing 8x, Texture Detail High, All checkboxes unchecked except for Play in Full-Screen Mode and Disable Intro Movies)

PC Specs for Reference: Acer Nitro AN-515-58, 12th Gen Intel Core i5-12500H, NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3050 Ti, 32 GB RAM

Open to GOG app, go to Owned Games > Dragon Age Origins > Extras. Scroll down section, there is a section from where you can download the offline installer. Click on the download button. The installer will be downloaded in "GOG Galaxy\Other Downloads\dragon_age_origins"

Thanks so much for this! Had the same problem, I took the short route (backed up the exe, replaced with the one from that link) and it's working like a charm so far.

I don't know if they reverted to pre-1.05
I don't use galaxy and see in my gog library on the website the offline installer is at version 1.05A

the offline installer i kept from before the disaster update (good for me i didn't delete it) was setup_dragon_age_origins_ultimate_2.1.0.4 (and a patch named patch_dragon_age_origins_ultimate_2.1.1.5 )

That's the backed up version I have too, thank goodness lol. I think this month, I'll take the time to start backing up everything before GOG PP updates anything further lol. Or as much as possible anyway...

I love GOG and the GOG team, but better safe than sorry this time around haha.

Version 1.05A was the last "good" version (dated 2017-03-21). The main difference between 1.05A and the previous 1.05 was the compatibility with Cloud Saves in GOG Galaxy.

The new version was 1.05 GOG 0.5 (dated 2024-10-08), that has caused a lot of problems. It seems that this new version has been removed from offline backup section. Only 1.05A is available.

Anyway, I always recommend saving all the available versions, as long as you have the space to do so.

Can I ask what this update gave anyone? I still have 2.1.1.5 on my NAS. This seems later than 1.05.

It seems that your game is very old, before version 1.05 (from 2016). Previous versions of the game used a different numbering.

According to the GOG Database, the first versions were called gog-3 or gog-4. One of those two versions could be yours. After them, version 1.05 was released in 2016, but then versions 1.05(hotfix), 1.05(dlc) and finally 1.05(A) were released in 2017.

All these versions provided a lot of fixes, except for the last released version (1.05 GOG 0.5) which has been a disaster. However, version 1.05 GOG 0.8 has now been released and seems to fix all the previous bugs.

Hi, I purchased the game on 2020-08-30

My downloaded version before this year updates is named:
setup_dragon_age_origins_ultimate_2.1.0.4
(7 files)

and I have a patch named:
patch_dragon_age_origins_ultimate_2.1.1.5

In my versions file I have this:
1.5 (A) (gog-4) [2.1.0.4]

I don't remember where I got this version "number", I suppose in GOG website offline installer download page, which now is changed of course, but I think that perhaps "1.05 (A)", "gog-4" and "2.1.0.4" could be the same version.

I thought too that 2.1.1.5 patch was the latest version of the game (before this year updates), but without gogdb help I don't know.
