DOOM 3 BFG Edition had a lot of controversial changes over the original DOOM 3 release, most notably being able to use weapons with the flashlight (as it's now attached to your armor). This doesn't even cover the fact that the DOOM 1 & 2 WADS are censored and are not compatible with many existing WADS & mods. I have no problem with this being offered as an option, but as a store that was founded with game preservation in mind, the original release should really be offered here (as should the original Metro 2033 release, I might add).
Agreed, original DOOM 3 should be in place. I thought it was deleted from everywhere, but i was wrong! It is still on steam, so it should be here for sure.

DOOM 3 BFG suffers from over-brighten picture resulted in blown-off whites, some level-fragments were cut, and, yes, flashlight attached to weapon making the game less scary/slow.

At the very least it would be nice if they added the original as a bonus download to purchases of the BFG Edition.
The flashlight is actually a great addition to the game. The light and halo only illuminates small part of the darkened environment. Even with it on, the game is relentlessly dark, and you can't keep it on all the time, since it runs down the charge.

For those of you who don't want to use it, you can choose to never turn it on. Or not shoot the weapon when it's on. But it's a nonsensical stance.

The game is not over-bright at all. You can also adjust the brightness, if you don't like it.
I don't like the BFG Edition for several reasons:

1. Not all mods are compatible with it, including a personal mod I use that allows the use of the DB Shotgun in the main Doom 3 campaign.

2. I prefer the original flashlight as it forced a gameplay shift between shooting and seeing clearly.

3. Too much ammo everywhere. Seriously, not only does each individual ammo pickup give more ammo, but there's also so much of it everywhere in the levels. Now there's basically no reason to explore because you can't pick up anything you find anyways which was a large part of what made the original Doom 3 so appealing. Exploration was rewarded.

I don't mind having the BFG Edition on sale as an option, but the original Doom 3 is my preferred and having both on GOG would be better than simply having one or the other.
I am mixed on BFG D3

I would like the original though.
Yeah, I have played the original before and I am rather surprised how different BFG edition is, I know a lot of people complained about how dark the Doom 3 was, but for me that was what iliked about it. I am surprised they changed gameplay at all. I mean it would be okay if I could choose whether to play original or "enhanced" version of the game, but the game is not better, it is different at best.
Doom 3 is the superior version especially when you add in the Absolute Doom 3 HD mod which makes it look better than the BFG edition.

Come on GOG live up to your name and bring us the original version.
Well, just don't use the flashlight and don't pick ammo.
I'd like to own the original version as well. In fact I'd only buy Doom 3 with an original version.
Well, my opinion towards BGF is not so militant, but I wouldn't´t mind Doom 3 + RoE as a goodies for download bundled together with BFG Edition.
The comment of Samet42 (currently first) says it's a censored version and as I boycott the censored versions, I will not buy it!

What fragments of levels were cut? Or do you mean the ports of 1 and 2 within BFG?

Couldn't agree more. No one but a fool would be running through a pitch-dark environment full of stuff ready to jack-in-the-box out at you and kill you quick--with just a flashlight...;) By the time the weapon came up you'd already have had your head bitten off, if you ever even saw it coming...;)

Putting the flashlight on the weapon, IIRC, was only the *logical* place for it to be in such an environment! Seeing and shooting simultaneously would be the only way to *realistically* survive in that environment. The switching between seeing and shooting destroyed the immersion for me in the original game. It just wasn't logical. It would be like giving the player a limp--an artificial device to make the game harder and scarier, etc. A lot about the game is contrived (monster closets, etc.) like poor special effects in a B movie, I thought. But mounting the flashlight on the weapon used (if I recall that correctly) made a lot more sense and made the game more fun for me at the time.

You do know there's a fan-made patch to decensor Dooms I and II in BFG Edition?
