Magmarock: is it worth the wait and effort?
Sure. That's one of the entertaining parts of the game. You get a taste of dragon-action early on (about 1/4th into the game) and then the game keeps holding the ability in front of you like a carrot in front of a donkey - making you do this and that in order to progress on your quest to be a dragon when you want to.
And you always think, "oh, I just have to do THIS" then you find out that there's SO MUCH MORE to do. Leads to absorbing and obsessive game play.
You get to go full on Dragon about half-way through the game. After that you swap back and forth depending on what you want to do.
It's not like Drakhan - you don't get to swoop over mooks and fry 'em. When you're a dragon the dudes you were fighting on the ground before usually aren't even visible - but all sorts of anti-dragon things wake up and try to kill you. But it does provide great opportunities to role play. You can fly over enemy fortresses and covert to human form in mid-air - dropping down RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of the enemy camp for super-intense melee action or, more cleverly, land on the wall of the fortress and do some sniping and abomination deploying.
Note that there's essentially NO dragon activity in the "flames of vengence" conclusion to the game. Just a stupid escort mission at the very end. Ahh, what would a Larian game be without a rotten ending?
Still one of my favorite games. (both DD and DKS)
