I have a 9600KF with stand-in 7850 2GB (think GT480/570/750ti or R7 265 kind of performance), as my 1070ti has died. I already have DoS 1 and 2 and intend to play them. The problem is, my 32'' 1440p monitor looks really bad trying to pull off 1080p. I'd rather not buy a GPU right now because the prices are falling, so waiting may be the best option, at least waiting with a big purchase. What are some older GPUs that would be sufficient for max quality settings @ 1440p @ 50ish fps?* Would upping this to 1440p @ 75 fps feel noticeably smoother? Or would upgrading from 1440p to 4K make the game look better by a large enough margin to make the upgrade worthwhile?
* In lieu of older GPUs, I'd also consider 6500XT (tends to be just a couple percent more expensive than used cards offering the same performance level) and 6600 non-XT (in lieu of 1080), maybe a cheap 6600XT in lieu of expensive 1080ti.
I have my eyes set on 3070ti, but wouldn't this be overkill for DoS 2 even @ 4K? The idea would be to play DoS 1 & 2 and Pathfinder on a less expensive card to wait it out until the prices fall (it seems 3070, 3060ti and 6700XT have finally budged and are currently on a downward trend that may take a couple of weeks or months to reach its full potential).
