I have a 9600KF with stand-in 7850 2GB (think GT480/570/750ti or R7 265 kind of performance), as my 1070ti has died. I already have DoS 1 and 2 and intend to play them. The problem is, my 32'' 1440p monitor looks really bad trying to pull off 1080p. I'd rather not buy a GPU right now because the prices are falling, so waiting may be the best option, at least waiting with a big purchase. What are some older GPUs that would be sufficient for max quality settings @ 1440p @ 50ish fps?* Would upping this to 1440p @ 75 fps feel noticeably smoother? Or would upgrading from 1440p to 4K make the game look better by a large enough margin to make the upgrade worthwhile?

* In lieu of older GPUs, I'd also consider 6500XT (tends to be just a couple percent more expensive than used cards offering the same performance level) and 6600 non-XT (in lieu of 1080), maybe a cheap 6600XT in lieu of expensive 1080ti.

I have my eyes set on 3070ti, but wouldn't this be overkill for DoS 2 even @ 4K? The idea would be to play DoS 1 & 2 and Pathfinder on a less expensive card to wait it out until the prices fall (it seems 3070, 3060ti and 6700XT have finally budged and are currently on a downward trend that may take a couple of weeks or months to reach its full potential).
Prices, at least here in the US, have dropped dramatically the past month or two. You can get a 3070 non ti for around $600-$650 now, which isn't a terrible amount above original MSRP.

I don't recommend a 6600 or a 6600XT. If you're going to buy another amd card, get a 6700 or 6700 XT. The 6600 has some short cuts baked into it that makes it not worth the money at all.

Either card can be had for a reasonable rate at current prices, again, at least here in the US. I don't think prices will drop much beyond what they already have, though I could be wrong.

EDIT: I don't know the answer for upgrading from 1440p to 4k, but I've heard in terms of UI, 1440p is the smallest you want to go without causing eye strain.

I use 1080p on a 27" monitor and it works ok, though I'd prefer 1440p. I can upscale to 1440p and sometimes do, and it looks pretty perfect.

32" I'd think 4k might be preferred by most people, but again, you're talking such a small UI on the computer that you either have to magnify everything or use strong glasses. At least, that's what I suspect though I've never used a 4k monitor so I'm not entirely sure.

I have been told the difference from 1440p to 4k is less than the difference from 720p to 1080p, fwiw. Good luck.
