I am very confused with this. I understand there has been an update with DD (and BD?), but what exactly has been updated? Is it just a bugfix? I ran the new version last night and did not notice anything new...

Hello aside from the updated config tool i believe there was just some minor bugfixes.
With BD there were Vista/7 compatibility fixes, as well as support added for higher resolutions and widescreen aspect ratios.
Thanks, I'll see later if I can figure out what it means, though the options seemed unchanged at a glance. Widescreen support is good.
I see that the widescreen resolutions have been added to the Beyond Divinity config tool. They're working fine for me, although I can't seem to use the mouse wheel to zoom anymore (only with the new resolutions).

With Divine Divinity, who knows? I would love to see a change list if one exists. The missing music bug still exists by my own experience.
Added higher resolutions are working fine for me too, with both BD and DD. Indeed the zoom doesn't work with higher resolutions, but I don't think it's really an issue.

I agree with bengeddes, a list of changes would be welcome, if possible. I also have the missing music issue (two tracks playing randomly when playing around Aleroth/Farm lands, right tracks for undergrounds, nothing in the first two inns you visit in the game).

BD seems to run smoothly, as opposed to a previously quite laggy camera. Both games load faster on my PC too, so the patches have at least made the experience more enjoyable, technically!

I am sure the "list of changes for DD (1.0061A)" should be as follows:

General:
- Feature: Allow more HD resolutions
- Feature: Recreated config tool
- Soundtrack Feature: Only 2 tracks played repeatedly (again!)
- Feature: Changes made by official patches 1.0031A-1.0033A are still not implemented (again!)
- Feature: Tooltips of damage stats on stat screen improved (?)

Skills:
- Fixed: Spellbooks no longer ignore level requirements (should be avoided)
- Fixed: All weapon expertise skills give percentile bonuses instead of static bonuses (?)
- Fixed: True Sight damage is now actually used (?)
- Fixed: Bow and crossbow expertise bonuses are now actually used (?)
- Fixed: Divine Eye removes the fog of war (should be avoided)
- Fixed: Deadly Gift's Scorpion Trap is less powerful (should be avoided)
- Fixed: Resurrected enemies die after region swap (?)

Hint:
If you want to actually play the game use original retail 3CD game release patched to 1.0033A or 1.0034A. Avoid digital releases at any cost. Period.

Why?

RaggieRags: Why?
Between the original release on GOG (1.004A) and its update to fix a couple new bugs (1.005A), there was a screwup somewhere with the source code (unnoticed at the time) that resulted in some of the changes and bug fixes being undone, including some that were in disk version patches.

Most of the issues are relatively minor, though, or are fixable if encountered. I played half my first game in the unpatched original disk release and didn't have any real problems; I only installed the hotfix due to a minor problem that remains fixed in the download version.

what are the problems with gog's Divine Divinity? (1.005A) - before the recent update

RaggieRags: Why?
Some game breaking/nasty bugs which were fixed in retail CD version but remain unfixed in digital version:

- Fixed bug with passive skills like ranger sight & magic barrier that were acquired through a bonus on a weapon and which would cause constant increments of the stats when loading
- Fixed bug which would cause negative resistances if you unequipped an item which gave you a boost to magical barrier without actually having learnt the skill
- Fixed bug where you would consistently get increasing resistances if you learned the resist magic skill and saved/load all the time, eventually leading up to corruption
- Polymorph recursion bug
- Savegame corruptions
- Instantiation of charm plates fixed – clicking twice on a charmable item will now close it rather than pop up another window. This also prevents item corruption from happening
- Fix for trolls being already dead when arriving at bridge and the guards being mad for not helping them while the player never saw them before
- Balin scene in prison triggers at the wrong times causing lockups
- Merchants Guild Tingalf quest problem solved (many other quest problems)
- Becoming a member of the Merchants Guild by paying gold doesn't work
- Slasher scene can go wrong
- George killed monologue always plays when entering georges house
- Problem with key in Dr. Elrath's house: If finding it before the scene with Dr. Elrath in his house, the key disappears and you cannot get in his house anymore without lock-picking
- Cannot tell Mardaneus you found Georges murderer in the COS
- Key opening several doors problem
- “Verdistis” slowdown problem
- Scene hangs in Ionas dungeon when Arhu shows equipment
- Entering final dungeon and scene hangs
- After godscene game hangs in wastelands

Tarnum: snip
Things like the spellbook requirement bypass and retardedly powerful scorpion traps were obviously glitches and saying that they should be avoided is just silly. Nearly all of the bugged skills were fixed, at the cost of the music bug and some (relatively) easily fixed quest bugs. In my opinion the digital releases are a step up, not a step down.

Spellbooks can be found regardless of the actual skill (spells) requirements. If you're lucky enough to find/buy a spellbook you should be able to read it immediatelly.
If you think that death scorpions are overpowered then you can decide to stop using them. Not only deadly gift skill is overpowered, but aura of command and poison weapon are too.

Read the full list, many other fixes not related to quests are not implemented in digital distribution.
I tried to apply the patch, but I get the incompatibility error as well. Same goes for the German language patch. =/
