Has anyone tried playing on the third party servers listed on D1Legit? (https://d1legit.com/2019/04/04/diablo-1-connecting-to-battle-net-gog-net-with-v1-09b/)

I'm curios if these would work with the GOG version of the game. Ive heard the old battle.net servers will not work with the GOG release. I'd be willing to test if anyone is interested.

Would be intressting if it would work.

Still very frustrating to buy a game where you are set to believe you can play online and then it dosent work.

I had a long talk with both GOG and Blizzard support, and eventually GOG's Tech Support Supervisor himself told me this:

Hello

I'm the Tech Support Supervisor.
The Battle.net functionality and support for it is on Blizzard's end.
Our Product Team contacted Blizzard and asked them to investigate this issue as we are not able to solve it on our end.
I'm unable to provide an ETA for the fix.
I apologize for the inconvenience.

I'm trying to drum up interest in playing Diablo Hellfire Multiplayer.

The multiplayer aspect isn't as smooth as your traditional battle.net servers because we have to use hamachi but at least you don't have to worry about it going down. :P
I am currently hosting a discord (link at the bottom of the thread I posted) and within that discord I have the instructions and zip files on how to get the hellfire unofficial update mod up and running and how to play multiplayer. It's all relatively easy and I am more than willing to talk people through it as well.
I am a huge fan of Diablo 1 and am having a blast playing with a friend of mine Diablo Hellfire multiplayer. I am just looking to see if there is anyone else out there willing to give Diablo Hellfire multiplayer a shot. If you are interested check out my discord: discord.gg/gMZwAPr and I can assist you with setting up the mod in a separate diablo folder so you can still play both your official gog install and the mod.

I am intressted but sadly not in in hellfire due the fact i want to replay the old era of Diablo1, Hellfire for me was some bad expansion not created by blizzard north.

But ill think about it.
I got a friend to willing to buy the gog version.

I understand. Diablo 1 was a great experience. :) I just have personally become a lazier gamer as I've gotten older and enjoy a lot of the Quality of Life elements we take for granted for games nowadays. All this mod does is take the slog out of Diablo, but it's still Diablo, there is still a loot grind, and the Hellfire expansion/unofficial update mod just adds more flavor (and QoL updates) without changing the whole recipe.

I've downloaded it and setup as host.

But do i need to start game up in lan mode? (Diablo) or how to make it possible for others to join ?

once complete, you should just host a game, once in the lobby click "start" or similar button. Make sure to allow later joiners to come. Once this is done you will be on a virtual IPX network, you can continue to make new games in "IPX" and others on gameranger will be able to join.

We have tried this method but seems like in Diablo 1 (gog version) we cannot join one another servers for some reason...
Therefore.. Hamachi did work perfectly, no issues...
