It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

It's linked to from the stickied FAQ, which is why it isn't stickied individually :)

Thanks though! As soon as 0.58.2 comes out, I'll be updating the installer again :)

Projectsonic: Two bugs:
1. The installer still seems to attempt to extract the .sow files from my GOG version, resulting in messages about temp files during the installation. Other than that and the HQ music not being put anywhere correctly (I had to go to the site and download it myself), all works fine.

2. I'm not really sure if this is the installer's fault or not, but I used the installer to put a new version of DXX-Rebirth up and I've never had this problem beforehand: both D1X and D2X will quit for some reason randomly, and it always happens while I'm actively flying/shooting at the same time.
Hmmm...I somehow missed these before. I'll look into the first thing, and see what I can figure out.

The second issue may indirectly be a problem with the installer. Can you attempt a clean install into a new directory and see if you still get that problem?

Thanks!

EDIT: The installer should be fixed now. Try redownloading it and see if you have the same problems :)

The installation process is now completely fixed! Thanks muchly. :D

As for the quitting problem: I had the same problems with crashing when installing it to C:/Games, but no problems installing it elsewhere (for example in Program Files, I run XP so this isn't a problem).

Odd, but everything's fixed now.

Hmm, that is odd! I wonder what caused it...

Oh well, I'm glad it's working for you now! :)
MAJOR update!! I've added all kinds of fun things, such as:

Improved install from CD (it now makes sure you have time to switch CD's if installing from multiple using one drive)
.hog file size checks (it will now warn you if you're installing with a .hog filesize that Rebirth doesn't recognize)
Vertigo expansion is now an option checked at the beginning of the install
File exist checks (it will now make sure it can find the data files in the directory specified)
Improved version scheme (differentiate between installer revision and Rebirth version)
Copy Demos (the install everything option now installs demos as well)
Lots of little bugfixes
Probably a few more things I forgot lol

Anyway, try it out, and let me know what you think!
Fixed a bug with the shareware data files as well as a few other minor things. (Also read the notes in the first post, as they've changed).
NEVER MIND! JUST DOWNLOADED THE NEW INSTALLER. SORRY!

I used DXXrebirth in Descent 1 and it worked fine since it had both .pig and .hog files. But Descent 2 doesn't have the .pig file? How can I get it to work also? There is a Descent2.hog, but no pig.

P.S. I'm using the GOG Descent 1+2 pack.

Thank you a lot for your work ! Highly appreciated here.
I'm glad you like it! :)
Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted here.

The installer has continued to be updated and has added lots of new goodies since I last posted. I have been keeping the OP up to date however, so it's accurate :)
Updated to allow extracting the data files from the gog installers without having to run them. Also includes a link to the gog Descent page for those who don't already have it.
What's with DX1 Playstation music pack and glut.ogg? It's included, but not listed in the descent.sng playlist in d1-playstation.dxa. Is that an error?
As I recall (I'll have to verify this with the guy who helped make it), the original Playstation soundtrack had glut, but never used it in-game. We decided to include it in case people wanted to listen to it, but since it was never in-game there was no place for it to be used.

Like I said, I'll have to double-check that, but I'm PRETTY sure that's the case.
Yeah, that's the case :) So you can listen to it if you want, but there wasn't anywhere to put it
As Retro and Rebirth continue to develop features independently player file settings can no longer be remembered between both source ports. Because of this I've decided to split the two into separate installers. You can now download each one independently.

If you run the Retro installer you can point it at your old Rebirth installation directories to copy over the files.

With the switch, I've also done some bug fixing and a few feature changes, so as always, if you see a bug let me know and I'll fix it as soon as I can.
