I downloaded Descent 1 & 2 and wondered if there is a way to get the Xbox 360 controller for the PC to work with it.
I guess that would go for any game on here, do any of the games work with the 360 controller?

Assuming you can plug in the controller to the PC, I recommend installing http://www.xpadder.com/ software and setup your pad profile with it, does the job very nicely indeed ;)
I just got done trying it. It's not like I imaged I would be playing Descent on a 360 controller, but it does the trick.
Thanks for the tip though. Its better than keyboard and mouse.

These source code projects do much to improve joystick support (and graphics!):
D2X-XL (This engine works with Descent 1 campaigns as well. I personally played Descent 1 in this well over a year ago and it worked great back then.)
D1X Rebirth (Here's one I haven't seen before which might be worth trying too.)

I have used both XL and Rebirth, both are great! Development of both is also active. I do find that Rebirth is a bit easier to just play the games with a traditional experience, there are fewer options. For Rebirth, there are discrete versions for Descent and Descent II.
Man, I got my old Descent 1 & 2 disks. Just bought the combo from GOG, but the info here I just got in this thread about the XL and Rebirth were worth the price of re getting the game here! :-)
This place is just fan-tas-tick!!!!!!!!
Man, no kidding! I'm all over this now. :D Sweet.
I just finished configuring a Xpadder profile for the Xbox 360 controller that works beautifully with all Descents and thought it would be nice to share it here.
You can download it from the following url:

I hope you find it useful ;)
Holy cow thanks so much for that D1x-Rebirth link! I loved D1 but the graphics were just painful to the eye! Now with d1x it looks pretty dang solid and I can enjoy the plunge again!
Ah man, this is so frustrating
It took me like 10 minutes to manually copy all the files where that program wanted them, and then I discovered that my 360 controller still doesn't work properly with it. The right joystick doesn't get detected at all, and you have to have the gamepad on when you start the application or it doesn't offer any joystick configuration options
so now I have to switch to my Nyko Airflo controller which has great mapping software included, pay for a copy of X-padder, or write an autohotkey script
Man, why does everything have to be such a pain in the ass?
If I break down and write an autohotkey script I'll post it here for you guys, I'm probably just going to use my 8 year old nyko gamepad though

Grab Joy2Mouse and learn to use it. It has a learning curve similar to Mt. Fuji, but once you get the hang of it you will never have that problem ever again.
That file doesn't exist, apparently, and yes, I put the link in correctly (as it is disconnected etc). Any chance of a re-upload? Thanks.
I lost most of my games to Katrina but still have the original Descent and Descent 2. I also lost a couple of joysticks but got a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. I've managed to get the sticvk working by checking "persistent" in adbvanced options but can't get any of the buttons to work. Using the keyboard and the joystick was ok as long as I could use the hat to slide and evade plus all the fire buttons. However, with the stick just controlling direction it's not very easy and really less than fun.

I'm running Windows XP and have the stick hooked up via USB. Any suggestions?

Please keep in mind that I'm probably three times older than any of you under 25 and really need detailed instructions.

Thanks.

Can anyone figure out how to use the trigger buttons? I can get the bumper buttons to work, but it doesn't recognize using the triggers with the rebirth version for some reason.
I'd suggest posting over at the Rebirth forum http://www.dxx-rebirth.com/frm

GREAT support! :)
