I can't run "Behind Enemy Lines". After the opening videos, it simply crashes to desktop. This also occurs if I try to skip the videos by pressing ESC, or if I try running in compatibility mode. I do not have this problem with the expansion, "Beyond The Call of Duty".
I am on Win XP.
Any ideas on how to fix this? :S

This question / problem has been solved by Resilimage
I had a problem with starting the game as well. The Eidos video intro crashed but I could hear the sound. Here is a temporary solution I found from the Steam forums:
For those people who have the K-Lite series of codec packs (may work on others) do the following to get the videos to play:
1. Start -> All Programs -> K-Lite Codec Pack -> Configuration -> FFDShow video decoder.
2. Scroll down to the row that says Cinepak libavcodec Cinepak(CVID)
3. Change libavcodec to disabled.
Link to the original.

Stagger_Lee: The third party fix does not work on my XP system.

Didn't work for me either.
I was under the impression that GOG team gets access to game sources and recompiles them if needs be... guess I'm wrong.

Hey there,
Thanks for your contribution. These games worked fine on my Win 7 64bit laptop but crashed as described in this forum on my Win 7 64bit desktop. I use the FFDSHOW Tryouts codec bundle on both, but I searched through the options in the configuration window, found that Cinepak label you described and disabled it. Now I'm up and running.
Again... Thanks!
I had a similar problem with my Win 7 Pro 64-bit and two monitor system.
Both Commandos BeL and BtCoD started but crashed to windows because of the intro videos. The solution was to change my color depth to 16 bit.
Now both games start and play normally. Try this if you are having problems with these games.
I can't run "Behind Enemy Lines", while the expansion works fine. In particular, after the opening video, it simply crashes to destop. Please give me a good solution.

thank you
I actually SOLVED it - I went into the video folder under the main directory and deleted the INTRO video file. BOOM - problem solved... started right up no problemo.

Good luck!

Just an FYI though - you need to basically remove all the videos out of that folder in order to play the game. And if you get an error that says insert game disc... just continue on or cancel it and it still works.

Lazy2log: However is is not as playable as you may have thought. It is rather small on 22'' screen even at 1204*768 resolution as it works only in a window mode....
I don't want to spam every thread, but there's a resolution fix here:
http://modelrail.otenko.com/electronics/commandos-behind-enemy-lines-resolution-fix

It works for both Commandos BEL and BTCOD.
It's not working for me. Why do I bother paying for these old games when most of them either don't work properly or are missing the game soundtrack. It's a bloody scam I tell you.
