I can't run "Behind Enemy Lines". After the opening videos, it simply crashes to desktop. This also occurs if I try to skip the videos by pressing ESC, or if I try running in compatibility mode. I do not have this problem with the expansion, "Beyond The Call of Duty".
I am on Win XP.
Any ideas on how to fix this? :S

RyanPGardner: How is this solved? A 3rd party's hack doesn't count as a solution to me. I really don't want to play this game in a windowed mode or change my resolution every time I play it.

It is solved because Nix, who opened the thread, marked a reply as a solution. I'm sure that GOG will look into a permanent fix and replace the file on the server in due course. A temporary solution is better than none.
Will GOG even look at this thread after Nix marked it as "solved"? Some of the users on the forum where the "fix" is posted seem to say that it caused problems with other games/programs. I'd be wary of putting it on my system.

Check the response from Resil. He is a GOG team member and his words are "temporary fix", therefore it stands to reason that GOG know the fix is only temporary, and so hopefully they'll be looking at making a more permanent fix.
Yes, it was I who marked the post as a solution. My reason, was because I can now actually play the game. I agree that running the game in windowed mode is not optimal, but I think there are limits to what you can demand from a game you pay $6 for. Should GOG provide a better solution, props to them, but I am content for now.
Besides, the game works perfectly in full resolution, if you manually change your screen resolution to 1024x768. You just have to live without Alt+Tab'ing. I prefer windowed mode to that.
Apologies for the confusion,
~ Nix
The third party fix does not work on my XP system. I've tried everything suggested here but nothing works. So far I haven't been able to play "Behind Enemy Lines". Any news on this problem?
It works for me (also Win XP SP3).
However is is not as playable as you may have thought. It is rather small on 22'' screen even at 1204*768 resolution as it works only in a window mode. Another annoying thing regarging the window mode is that you have to scroll the screen using your arrow keys (mouse does not work).
Waiting for a solution by playing Commandos 2 (which works flawlessly except for some sound during briefings problem as discussed here as well).

The exact same problem happens to me. I'm glat there's the Resil solution at least, but I would really be great if GOG could address this issue themselves.

I just uploaded it to megaupload, hope it helps.
bel-loader.rar
Doesn't really work for me either while i can access the tutorial missions normally, i can only play the campaign in 800x600 and without sound; which is really annoying.
i hope GOG finds a fix soon.
I've only seen assumptions based on Resil's wording of his statement.
Does anyone know for sure if a fix is really being developed?
It would be very nice to know for sure :-)
The fix doesn't work for me at all...
I just hear some sound but no image at all, and it mess up all my screen settings.
The issue must be somewhere in GOG version of Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines, because the same happens in Wine* (Ubuntu 9.10). The game starts with start-up screen, but instantly sending you to logging screen of ubuntu session.
However, Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty works flawlessly as in Windows XP.
So waiting for the patch as well.
PS: According to www.winehq.org steam version of both games works fine in Wine. However, the same problem is reported for Windows XP.
*You can run the game in Wine using its virtual desktop (works similar way as using the hack mentioned above).
