When I start playing a game, no music plays and I have to select a volume to get music to start playing. When music starts playing, only one song from the soundtrack plays on a loop (the track is Chaos Overlords\MUSIC\Track03.ogg); the other songs from the soundtrack never play. Is anyone else having these problems?

I'm interested to to know if music is working perfectly for others.
This question / problem has been solved by Azilutimage
GOG is aware of the "music not playing" issue, and has basically said "We'll fix it if we can."

I am also having the problem with only a single track playing in-game, but wanted to wait to submit a support ticket until I found out if it was just me. Guess not.

Thanks, I just wanted confirmation that it wasn't just me. I got a reply from my support ticket suggesting that the problem was specific to my install - there was no indication from support that this was a bug in the game.
Have you tried going to the menu and clicking on a different number than 5 under music? That gets the music playing for me.

Yes, I mentioned that workaround in my OP. It doesn't fix the separate issue of just one track playing on loop for me.

Just got a message from GOG support staff that they are looking into the various sound and music issues.
I have this issue of the first track just looping. Did GOG manage to resolve it yet?

Not as far as I know. You may want to sent GOG a support ticket with a dxdiag file (the support page explains how to do that) - hopefully getting a number of these will help them to find a solution.
Thanks Azilut. That's a shame. First I tried to get it working on Win8 which is what I am running on my laptop, but no dice due to graphical glitches. Then I tried it on a Win7 virtualbox VM and the graphics problem is gone but now this looping track problem.

I have Win Vista, thinking of trying that, but I don't have a copy of XP which would probably be best.

If only they could combine all tracks into one file for this it would probably be a quick fix :)
Meh, on second thought if I want ingame music in order to feel immersed in the game I can just download the soundtrack and play that in media player alongside the game :p

Now for a "real" solution for the looping one track music in CO. (at least until GOG actually does fix it)

If all of the ogg files are merged with a binary copy and the merged file renamed to Track03.ogg then all the music will play in the game.

Type the following command line into a batch file (merge.bat) , place the file in your Chaos Overlords /MUSIC folder and run it. Then rename the original Track03 to something else and delete the m from Track03m.ogg. You can put the music into any order, but the order will never change in the game. I mixed up the order a smidge.

copy /b Track09.ogg + Track03.ogg + Track07.ogg + Track02.ogg + Track06.ogg + Track04.ogg + Track08.ogg + Track05.ogg Track03m.ogg

You can even add the same track in multiple times or remove one you don't like by editing the file.

Oh, and don't forget to use the Volume Trick, if the music doesn't start playing.

Thanks LanceCrossfire!

That did the trick, and now I'm enjoying every song on the soundtrack : )

To Forum Moderators :

The Solution is incorrectly attributed to "Azilut", who merely referred people to GOG Support -- which did not propose a fix.

On this thread, the only effective Solution was offered -- 3 years ago -- by "LanceCrossfire" : it has worked for me, and for others that have replied to him.

To GOG Support :

I have installed your very recent 2.1.0.17 version, and the looping soundtrack was still not fixed -- 3 years after LanceCrossfire's solution was posted.

You could have very easily resolved the issue by incorporating in your recent versions a new Track03.ogg file, as modified by LanceCrossfire's batch-file methodology. If you had done so, the looping-soundtrack issue would have been resolved, and nobody would have noticed any problem. (Just trying to be helpful :)

You could also mention to people that if they hear no music or if the music abruptly stops, the "trick" is simply to change the volume number of the Music, and it restarts. Most game buyers do not visit gaming forums -- unfortunately.

Thanks for the two solutions :)

Thanks too for this summary of the situation and solutions !
I just send a support ticket to GOG to bring back this issue to their attention, I hope they'll be able to fix this :)
