Only ever played the disc version of regular Bioshock 1 but got Bioshock 2 Remastered just now on Gog. So far playing the game has been fine. It runs and looks great. Only issue I have is when I'm playing and hit escape to get to the main menu, and keep it there for a while, it seems to freeze. I have two pointers. The game pointer and screen are frozen and then I'll have another pointer which I assume is my desktop mouse pointer that doesn't do anything. Need to go to task manager to shut down. Also noticed Steam had been started.

Can't even get Bioshock 2 Remastered to start without crashing

hoover1979: I am also wondering if the GOG versions aren't the trainwrecks that are the Steam Versions.
Read my post above, and several others. Apparently the GOG versions run fine without the problems of the Steam versions, for some reason. Someone stated here that the version numbers of the GOG releases indicated a more recent release than Steam. Do the Steam releases require Steamworks to be running--? If so, that's DRM--pleasingly absent from the GOG versions entirely. Which may help or not as the case may be. Couldn't say.

My rig:

MSI Gaming Pro Carbon AC UEFI bios 2.E0
Corsair CX-750M PSU (62a x1 12v rail)
AMD Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.8GHz, voltage set, 1.385V, 65W TDP
RAM 16GB 2x8GB, Patriot Viper Elite @3200MHz 16 16 16 36 1T
Stock AMD cooler (95W version--thanks AMD!)
LG MultiDrive DVD writer SATA
Boot: Samsung 960 EVO NVMe 250GB (UEFI boot partition)
2x 1TB WD Blue 7200 rpm
ST2000DM SATA III 2TB
ST4000DM004 S3 4TB
AoC U3277PWQU 3840x2160 monitor
AMD RX-590 8GB/RX-480 8GB Crossfire
Realtek 1250 sound w/Nahimic 3
Win10x64 1809 v 17763.194 UEFI
Okay, this is probably too simple for a lot of folks on here. But as an old guy without a whole lot of savvy, this is what has solved my problem (and maybe this will help someone else): I reinstalled Bioshock2 Remastered from the gitgo. I let all the stuff play through and went immediately to options-graphics as soon as I was able. Turned on Windowed mode and hit yes. Changed the resolution to mine (1920x1080) and hit yes. Turned off Windowed mode and hit yes. The game has not crashed since. As I say, hope this helps someone else

Same here
The latest Windows 10 updates have problems with games running in native full-screen. That's why many games now only include windowed full-screen window. Although both display modes appear to be the same, they work differently.

In addition, Windows 10 has a game mode or full-screen optimizations that have problems with many old or recent games. You could try to enable or disable them depending on which graphic card you have.

Finally, many recent graphic drivers has shown a lot of problems with DirectX 9 games.

-Disable Game-bar unless your hardcore into XBOX ecosystem you dont need it. that will fix issue #1
-Once game-bar is disabled point 2 is resolved.
-415 and up on Nvidia (sorry dont know AMD) added support for october update fixing all that on third point.

As a note Dx9 is and will be allowed to be called by all modern drivers, if DX9 is messing up it because your running windowed mode which has been an issue since 2010's

Interesting info, good to know!

There's a a program called "Borderless Gaming" that might be helpful for games that don't offer the option to run in a borderless window. There seem to be a few games though which it doesn't work with.

I have been playing the GOG Bioshock HD remaster for about 10 hours. It either crashes to the desktop or freezes every 30 to 60 minutes. Frequently this is whilst saving a game. The Windows event viewer image attached shows the fault.

Things that have not helped:
- updating graphics drivers to latest
- running in windowed mode or full screen mode
- disabling ful screen optimization on BioshockHD.exe
- running in Windows 8 compatibility mode
- running in Windows 7 compatibility mode. Would not start because it complained about a missing Windows 7 SP 1

Configuration:
- Windows 10, latest updates
- Core i5-6600
- NVidia GTX 750 Ti
- Asus Xonar DX

The crashing is really annoying but I am enjoying the game otherwise. I have taken to saving very, very, very frequently. I also back up the saves regularly just in case. I may also start quitting and restarting every 30 minutes or so because when it crashes during saving of a game is the most annoying. It's quite annoyingly confusing to try and remember what one was doing in the previous save, even when saving frequently.

Has anyone managed to play the GOG version for a decent number of hours without problems?

MSVCR110.dll belongs to Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable libraries. I don't know what version of these libraries Bioshock needs. Try to reinstall all of them: 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, and 2017. In addition, install both 32 and 64 bits versions.

I was lucky that Bioshock 1 runs without crashing for me but the framepacing isn't the best. I sometimes get jittery movement despite 60fps with V-Sync turned on.

The only crashes I had were reproduceable. At a certain moment when you get to the flower-doctor who tasks you with finding that flower, if you open the map or the other menu (by pressing H) it crashes EVERY TIME. Luckily it stopped after I left the area. But still, it's an annoying bug. Just don't open the map or that other menu when you're in the garden level.

I'm just downloading Bioshock 2 and will see how this runs.

Specs:

i7 6th generation 3,2 Ghz boost
Nvidia 1070GTX
24 GB Ram
Installed on SSD
Windows 10

EDIT: Bioshock 2 didn't crash after 2 hours but, oh lawd, is the framepacing crappy. It might show 60fps with fraps but the gameplay is stuttery as hell. There is a solution, though. I use a program called "Borderless Gaming" which enables Borderless Windowed mode for the game and the stuttering is completely gone! Apart from the occasional stutters when entering a new area or running into a scripted event the framerate is smooth now.

I have seen troubleshooting for Steam regarding game slowdowns and crashing when accessing the map, most of these relate to using a game controller on PC, which is a shit, because I'm trying to get used to using a controller.

As yet, it seems, nobody has fixed the issue or even cares at this point, with the "solution" being 'use the keyboard'... remind me, what f'ing year is this?

Also, what is people's deal with giving away anything from important plot points to the ENTIRE STORY when explaining their troubleshooting issues? Idiots.
It's an 11 year old game. Get over it.

Besides, I played this on PS4 and on PC and it plays so much smoother with a mouse. I only get headshots with mouse and keyboard and I don't have to stop the game to switch weapons or plasmids. Just push a key while you're walking.

EDIT: Bioshock 2 has random crashes. I was fighting against a Big Sister and it just crashed out of the blue. This happened twice. So do not go easy on that Quicksave button

EDIT2: It crashed 3 times in 20 minutes. Always in a fight. So, I can confirm this version is just as bad as the steam version. Wait for the Classic release and don't buy this, yet.
