As many of you know, the steam version of these games are a desaster. My question is to anyone who has played the gog-version: Are they playable? Do they crash? Strange performance issues or no problems at all?

I'm also curious about this. I have the Steam versions and they're a mess. The issues are pretty deep (no pun intended) and I wonder if GOG actually fixed issues in the game engine...
Also watching. And if not, how long until the classic versions are available?

What is the problem with the Steam versions? I never run into problems playing them on Steam. But I think about buying them here just to have it in my GOG account.

There have been a huge amount of reports regarding the remasters and their technical issues. Everything from the game being unable to load to system hangs to frequent crashes to crashes and involuntary reboots to etc etc.

Do you play the game at 4k with highest settings?

No sorry I only have 1920x1080 monitor :/
There have been several major updates since the first release of the remastered Steam version of both games.

I hope GOG version include the last patches.

But the Steam discussion sections on these games are still full of recent posts of people experiencing crashes, lost save game files, etc.

Yes. And I dont want to buy it here before I can be sure it's working. The original Bioshock games never crashed once on any of my systems. But the remasters are full of problems. And erased savegames would make me shut the game down forever. I can't handle stuff like that

So if anyone has sunk a few hours in the GoG version and is able to tell how well it performs, please go ahead

Just fired up both games for about an hour...not a single bug, not a glitch--nothing that was visible or caused me problems. Win10x64, build 17763.168, RX-590/480 (8GB Vram Ea) in Crossfire, Adrenalins 18.12.2, AMD Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.8GHz; played bueatifully at 3840x2160. Savegames work perfectly, etc. Both games had version numbers > 1.0, so looks like whatever patching has been done so far is included.

Besides, this isn't Steam--GOG gives you 30-days for a refund if a game isn't running on your system--so what're you worried about? Right now you can get both games for $9.98. Can't see how you are risking a thing--but as I say, so far both games are playing delightfully. Ah, if only I could have played like this when the games shipped ~15 years ago!...;)
GOG versions of Bioshock 1 and 2 are 1.0.122872 and 1.0.122864 respectively. As far as I know, both versions are higher than that of Steam (1.0.121321). I don't know if Steam realeased a newer version. However, according to 2K Games webpage, the last update was on 5th december 2017, including savegame and other critical problems.

Well, you can get a refund if you come across a technical hurdle that you can't bypass and you and Support working together can't bypass either, sort of. There are limitations.
Played Bioshock 1 for about an hour in 1080p. The game works flawlessly with no crashes or stutter, runs great with high FPS and looks pretty good. I can't test 4K resolution unfortunately. I think not many people are using that yet, so it might be a while till people with that kind of setup start reporting in.

Build: Windows 10 Pro 17763 (1809), AMD FX-8350 @ 4 GHz, GTX 960 (4GB Vram), 16 GB RAM

I am also wondering if the GOG versions aren't the trainwrecks that are the Steam Versions. On Steam, Bioshock 1 Remastered didn't crash on me but I got a lot of glitches (Mainly physics glitches and weird red and purple bits in the water in an area of the Fontain's Fishery level).

Bioshock 2 Remastered is a far worse story! Crash after crash after crash. It could crash in a battle, opening a door, picking up an item, searching something or someone and in some cases taking a step forward! In short, an unplayable Crash Simulator! According to Windows Event Viewer, all the crashes were "Memory Access Violation (0xc00000005)" crashes.

One issue that both remasters have is the sound completely craps itself if Windows has the audio set higher than 24bit 48,000hz (and I prefer to have my audio set to 24bit 96,000Hz 5.1) so I have to change my windows sound settings every time I play them. (The exact same issue as Doom 2016).

NONE of the updates released on Steam fixed ANY of these issues and the last update (Which was a year after the previous update) was mainly implemented to add Chinese language support so they could sell the games to China to make more cash.

I suspect the "remasters" were just a cash grab so they could resell Bioshock 1 & 2 to the PS4/XBONE owners and the PC port was a lazy, cobbled together afterthought most likely outsourced to a cheap developer that couldn't code for PC to save their lives (Like the Ys VIII PC Port, but without any attempt to fix the problems), in an attempt to grab more cash from PC users unlucky enough to not already have the classic versions in their Steam library!

Although I got the remasters for free for already owning the classic versions (Which are stable af, in comparison) if I get proof that GOG fixed this cluster**** I would gladly pony up the cash to get the remasters on GOG.

I’ve played through bioshock 1 remastered twice all achievements and haven’t had one problem while the classic crashed all the time so for me at least the remasters looks better and runs better
