SarahGabriella: I think it would have been best to not have a gender option. I dont know yet if gender will affect anything other than pronouns and in that case, they/them could have been used. Since there is a gender option tho it would be nice for roleplaying purposes for enbys to have a non binary option. Battletech has it and its nice that its there.
I once read a whole sci-fi book where the only pronouns for everyone in it was they/them. It was an interesting read although it took a little to getting used to.

In this case thoght the voiceover is alreaday recorded. I doubt they do a whole aditional voiceover to implement they/them.
Perhaps you could design a game that could more thoroughly and exhaustively explore contemporary gender issues. I imagine the skill set, focus, and knowledge of this game's developers could very well fall into a different purview.

Well we have a narrator, who knows if he uses pronouns.

As far as I know every "spoken" text aka our character talking to an NPC is narrated by the same narrator. SO if the NPC refers to our fur ball as a "he" i imagine the narrator will say "he".

DABYX: I'm sure people said that about the lack of decent representation of women in games. Also who the heck are 'them'? Lol

I still think personally that games without a character creation can have whatever they want though. Like on the opposite, I wouldn't have an issue playing a game with a main, non-binary protagonist.

SarahGabriella: Dont bother talking to these right wing trolls. They always come out when you mention women, LGBT people and POC. Anything that isnt cis hetero white male centric is political to them.
No one's trolling or getting political, you're making things up in your head. No one mentioned any of those things but you. This whole thing is a waste of developer time and no one cares about it except you.
Well I played a little after work and didn't even see a select gender or sex option when creating character so I guess they removed it. So problem solved I guess.

Doesn't need it for an anthropomorphic critter imo anyway.

Yea lol i forgot about it in the char creation. I was busy with the colors. Im glad it got removed. Tho it seems like we are defaulted into a male character.

I've read many. In fact, each and every book I have read in my native language. That's because my native language does not have gendered pronouns. We have one for humans and another one for everything else. And in casual speech we use the one for everything even for humans. (Yes, it is not impolite to refer to a person as "it" in my language. Quite the opposite, if you use the pronoun for humans in a casual setting, people think you are being overly formal.)

Gendered pronouns are the weird ones. Why do they even exist? "He eats ice cream." -- Why is gender relevant information in this sentence? How do English speakers eat ice cream if the gender is relevant?

Yea seems so which is a slight shame but they are still cute! I couldn't decide on a chubby cat or a lean ferret thing!

The gender binary was created around the same time as race. Before that, man meant person. Thats around 400 years of gender binary. Since gender is a social construct all genders are valid.

I like playing as a dog/cat/racoon/bear! The only sucky thing atm are the controls. I try to remap but if they dont fix that its a refund for me. Button combos just dont do well on keyboard and mouse.

Now I am curious what is your native language, can't be german since german has genders too.

Finnish.

And yeah, German is as far from Finnish as can be. Well, they have cases, only four of them and only one per word so it's really simple. But they conjugate the gendered article, not the noun itself! We don't have articles in Finnish.
Think about it for a darn second. I can only tell my female animals from the male animals by their genitalia. Lady cats and lady dogs dont have feminine faces like Humans do so what is a gender option gonna do anyways?

Anthropomorphism.

Mooma has thicker thighs, narrow waste, breasts (just two of them) and could have long eyelashes but mine didn't.
Popsi has broader shoulders, heavier build and sits in a more slack way.

Basic stereotypes to convey the difference. (I can't believe I just used mooma and popsi in a sentence. You can't have a serious conversation using these words.)

SarahGabriella: I hope that they expand the gender options in a future update because only man and man is too narrow. Non binary should be an option. And the gender symbols used in the game are for sex, not gender. Male and female sign.
So they could change gender to sex.
I'm from Germany and we don't even have different words for sex and gender.

Infratest, Germany's most reputable source for polls, released a study, where 56% of Germans are AGAINST gender-neutral language to include every imaginary gender. Only 35% support gender ideology. A lot of media outlets reported about this topic last week.

Normally I ignore these kind of posts, but I read another topic today, where you insulted other people, who asked for Windows 7 support. I see this all the time: People, who preach political correctness are extremly toxic and need to be called out.
