...after playing the first mission so far. It looks, sounds, and plays quite well. I like that I can do pincer movements with my units first before attacking with them, which is something I first didn't realize I could do. Works nicely when done right. It's good that the two (independent) action system in Kronos allow for a considerable flexibility in what one can do. In general I really like the simplistic interface. Being able to unload units from depots/transports via the sidebar without having to rummage around inside every time is a nice touch. Attacking buildings via infantry to 'capture' them seems... well... a bit odd when I first saw it happening, but it does kind of make sense as you would be attacking whoever's manning them, right? The zooming function from down low to the strategic map is a very welcome function

Now things I've noticed that may not be all on the up-and-up. As far as I could tell difference in terrain doesn't modify attack/defense strength (correct me if I'm wrong there), and it really only restricts unit movements with roads speeding things along a little. Certain info texts seem to be missing in the English version (as well as others from what I gathered), i.e. a missing 'application' text for artillery. The cutscenes - after the rather nice intro - seem to be of middling quality (as expected from what I've seen in the preview shots). Oh well. I'm not expecting a grand story as is. The 'tutorial', such as it is, is nothing to write home about. Yes, it covers the basics, but I seem to be learning better by just trying things out.

The following does bother me a bit: there's no clear indicator how far any unit can move - on the sidebar or on a unit's info screen - other than selecting a unit as well as not being able to tell how far an enemy unit can move to attack my own, which would probably be the most important aspect for me in all this. It really is strange that it'll show me their attacking range but only if they ever stay stationary. Good to know for attacking, but when also trying to gauge how to move my defense lines as well it can be a bit tricky.

Lastly, the Editor doesn't seem to be available yet. Apparently, from what I've read on their forum it looks like they're focused on fixing bugs and the like... which makes me think they ought to have waited maybe another month until release. Oh well. No biggie as I've only just started the campaign I can wait.

Hmm. After reading what I just wrote it does sound a bit negative, though I'm quite enjoying the game actually.

Question for happy owners of this promisingly looking game: are conflict sides in game different or identical? I mean, is there the same set of units for all sides or there are differences (in stats at least)?

Thanks in advance.

For now (first 2 missions), the units I saw are identical. But I only encountered "invader" factions like mine, and not the survivors.
Bought it and I'm rather disappointed. It doesn't cost its price really. Maybe, they would be able to polish it step by step, add more units, campaigns and such, but the main thing is that this game is deeply secondary in every aspects. Battle Isle series, despite its old age, gave me more enjoy (and there's no nostalgia here, I played Battle Isle for the first time in my life, having bought it here on GOG a month ago).
Any fresh impressions? Has the game gotten better? Have the problems been adressed? It is on sale and i am considering a purchase, but unless the game is truly great I can't afford it. :P
Just bought it cause of the sale so i will play for a while and post back. (hoping for Battle Isle 2014)

Edit/
After playing a couple of hours and only scratching the surface i dont feel like i have wasted my money at the sale price.

Just played through it and I am very happy with it. The Trains DLC campaign was the best, wish it had more missions. The game is exactly like Battle Isle, but better interface, graphics and different units upgrades.
I can't help for my impression that game seems to be very hard (despite what's written in tutorial, that game is not too hard, if you know how to play in it).

So far I've passed first two missions in campaign, and I'm wondering if I shouldn't start from the beginning, to have some elite units "transferred" to third mission (short story - I didn't know that I'm supposed to make some additional action when unit is advancing in experience enough, to make it "elite" unit and in effect, make it possible to "transfer" it.

I appreciate variety of units, that their differences are so noticeable (and despite the fact that enemy is using exactly the same units, it's still a challenging and interesting game). But the fact that usually we're forced to march forward without too many delays, plus the fact that combat is very often making us to stop (e.g. trying to drag enemy into more convenient (for us) places - this overall makes campaign hard and a bit too much challenging, for my taste.

It's a bit like playing in one of games from Massive Assault series (due to long trial to "break" the frontline), yet with having very, very limited resources and units... But it only occurs to player, since enemy doesn't seem to be especially limited.

I still want to finish this game, but I admit, that so high difficulty is not very encouraging.

Yes, the game is hard. It's a modern Battle Isle, unforgiving, heavily scripted and it can snowball hard. Every map is ofc winnable, but especially later maps have only one or two winning strategies. And until you learn said strategies/turns its save/reload/ragequit. ;-)

You'll master it given enough time, no doubt - if you don't lose your motivation. The game isn't very good at motivating the player to press on, the story is run-of-the-mill. Personally, I played it because I loved the old Nectaris/BI/HL series. But rose-tinted glasses aside, there are better tactical games out today.

Cheers, Alex
