Either I'm officially too stoopid or there's a bug. Just had a prosperous little village with about 24 adults and 6 kids. Food level was so high that I moved some gatherers and hunters into the mines - still the food pile was growing - until all of the sudden the pile shrunk from 5000 to around 120 units, so I assigned every available guy to food production: 1 herdsman, 5 gatherers, 8 fishermen and 3 hunters. That sums up to 17 of 30 people in food production, short after 3 elders die of old age and it's 17 of 27 people.

Even tho enough food should be coming in, the people just seem to freak out or something. I don't know. The pile flashes from 0 to 60 to 0 to 43 to 0 to 100 to 2 to 0 to 46. That goes on for half a season, then people start to starve and I can't avoid this course.

My new town is a compact one - no long ways to walk. Hunters have deer, fishers have space to their own, gatherers have enough area too... but still it's just switching from overproduction to completely failing production! I just don't get it - the one second I don't know where to store the food that 5 people produce and in the next second I can't find a way to survive with almost everyone gathering food. As people are starving the amount of consumers drops and the survivors all go into food production.

What freaks me out the most is that even the people at the darn source are starving! How comes a fisher starves to death!? He's got the fucking fish in his incompetent hands! Same goes for gatherers - instead of just munching away that shroom they found, they'll starve with the food in their hands. They're all happy, they're all healthy, they all die out of... gna!

This sucks.

Ps:
Prey tell, does cattle eat human food? I just reloaded my save for like the 20th time, trying to rescue the situation. This time I planted an additional hunter instead of a fisher and killed my cow (yeah, singular.. I just bought 2, but the second one must have died on the way to the meadows). What happened? My food production just exploded. I'm on over 1k again, growing. I'll see if stays this way...

Only differences: +1 hunter instead of +1 fisher and empty cattle farm instead of 1 cow.

Excuse me, I'm more confused than ever and going to bed for now... *TILT* ...I'll dream of weird mechanics for sure.

Vertex - don't forget in winter a lot of your food sources won't yield much or anything. So you have to have high stocks build up through the year to survive winter. Not that harvesters without work will default to doing labour work so they are not wasted in their job if they've nothing to do.

The game does appear to have a weakness in that resources can't be used as a resource until its collected for the specific purpose of being used (which normally means from a depo). You see the same thing on building plots where resources are removed from the plot - taken to the depo and then often taken right out again to act as resources to build the structure itself.

Its one thing I'd like to see changed - food though might be different. Fish (for example) needs cooking before you can eat it (safely anyway).
