twistedpony: Halfling Druid Moon Circle 11/Monk 1: the thought of a tiny halfing shifting into a huge beast amuses me. Or maybe a Gnome. I'm not sure which are smaller and I like the Superior Darkvision of the Deep Gnome.
Something annoying I've noticed about the short-legged races: they can't jump to all the locations that the other races can. This means that periodically while exploring your party will want to go somewhere that your PC can't follow. There are ways to alleviate this temporarily that use spell slots, also the Gith have a skill (I assume it will be in the release version?) that they can use to get them over the hump. I don't know what jumping abilities the wildshapes have.

J Lo: The cult of Eilistraee has been around for some time.
Yeah I'm gonna do some wiki reading the next couple days.

StingingVelvet: I know you said Lolth-sworn, but since I'm not up on 5e due to only playing video games it's odd to me there's such a focus on "good" Drow now. I didn't even know that was a thing. Apparently they even have their own deity.
I presume it's a move by WoTC to be more inclusive given that in the real world, there's no such thing as an exclusively good or bad race. I suppose the existence of Driztt already gave a nod to that but in a much more limited capacity.

Interesting! I suppose it makes some kind of physical sense. I'm not averse to using spells to get around it. I like the concept of using spells outside of combat as problem solvers. Although I'm not sure how I'll go with limited spell slot per-day management. It's a pity the jump spell doesn't seem to be 'until long rest'.

I presume it's because people think drow are cool but maybe have trouble keeping an evil in their party. Viconia is kind of a fan-favorite.
I mean it makes total sense to make "evil Drow" a culture thing, not a blood thing, I just didn't know DnD put that much focus on good Drow other than Driztt.

I think being able to make Drizzt also might have had some influence in the decision to make drow more common.

Doing my part to keeping this thread on top so we can get more discussions of gameplay instead of technical or purchase issues. I don't have the courage to play BG3 right now so I cannot otherwise contribute to the discussion.
These forums aren't actually that active. There's like 6 topics total that anyone is posting to. There's very little risk of this dropping past the first page.

Besides, most forums I read are mostly technical issues. Until the game comes out, there's not much else to talk about... and once it does, I'm sure there will be lots of more technical issues to post about.
That saddens me. Larian games seem so untamed to me. So deserving of more fun discussions.

There's tons of discussion out there, it's just no one uses the GOG forums because they're awful. Check out the BG3 Reddit or Larian's own forums. There's also a lot of CRPG focused Discords out there.

I hope more players will post gameplay discussions on GOG forums. The excitement out there must be through the roof.

Apparently Rangers can't have a Panther companion in BG3. I wonder how intentional that omission was. Kind of leaves them open to having a Drizzt cameo in the game or future DLC.
the Panther Drizzt has is because of a magic item not from being a ranger so thats very easy to add from a story point of view

the bigger issue is his God but again that is a special story case

Ahhhh! I vaguely recall that magic item now.
I misinterpreted the DnD5e rules for multi-classing Bard and Wizard. I'm currently Bard 1/Wizard 2 and I can learn level 2 Wizard spells from scrolls, which I previously thought wasn't possible but I think for a multi-classing Bard/Wizard, the spell slots progress with character level because they're both full casting classes and a Wizard can learn any spell they have a spell slot for. Currently 4 level 1 slots and 2 level 2 slots. So it looks like I'll be able to attain more Bard levels than I previously thought, whereas I thought before I'd miss out on being able to cast high level Wizard spells.

Currently thinking Bard 5/Divination Wizard 7. With Bardic Inspiration and Portent and the improved versions of both, manipulating dice roles and passing skill checks should be pretty fun, frequent and powerful. The main downsides for me are:

- fewer Wizard prepared spells but this is offset by the always prepared Bard spells. I think the number of Wizard prepared spells is Wizard level + Int modifier.
- needing both Int and Cha is challenging
- 1 less feat than a single class character
- figuring out which order to level up in since leveling up becomes slower and slower each time. It ends up being a trade off between increasing the number of Wizard prepared spells vs Bard class features. I'm thinking this progression:

Bard 1
Bard 1/Wizard 1 (allowed me to experiment with Wizard spells plus attain offensive cantrips)
Bard 1/Wizard 2 (Wizard Divination specialization choice, Portent feature, extra Wizard prepared spell)
Bard 2/Wizard 2 (Bard features)
Bard 3/Wizard 2 (Bard subclass, all 'core' bard class features obtained)
Bard 3/Wizard 3 (extra Wizard prepared spell)
Bard 3/Wizard 4 (feat, extra Wizard prepared spell)
Bard 4/Wizard 4 (another feat)
...
