Hi friends! ♥

Edit: Thanks for the replies!

Five more days. What race/class combos are you playing? Here's what I'm rolling:

Elven ranger - I like rangers in general (Robin Hood types appeal to me). This specific combination also reminds me of Link from Zelda.

Human druid - I'll be making a human (or dwarf, I haven't decided yet) character named Tuck. Friar Tuck was more like a Christian monk, but his background and abilities are closer to a druid IMO.

Tiefling bard - Something about this combination appeals to me. Can't quite put my finger on it.

Drow rogue - This character will be most like me. I relate to drow in that they are outcasts, and the rogue class is probably what I'd be if I were in D&D land.

Gnome Bard [lore], mostly because we don't already have a Bard or a Gnome

Great choice! I'll have to try that combo myself.
Probably a ranger. I am thinking about a half-elf or elf.

One of my favourite race/class combos :)

Sorry if I'm not making sense. It's almost 4 Am and I have to go to bed.
My go-to is usually a half-elf ranger...
More than likely, I'll start with an origin character. I don't have a ton of time and I tend to get most of my enjoyment in a game out of exploring the world, so replays aren't usually as fun even if they're slightly different. Playing an origin character allows me to get the backgrounds/dialogue options of 4 characters at once.

Do you have one in mind yet? I might do Lae'zel (because she's a fighter). Shadowheart and Wyll are the most interesting to me as characters.
Probably Astarion just because I get **incredibly** frustrated any time I can't open a chest, though that tiefling that you meet halfway through EA is tempting as well if she's an option (and I'd just have to drag Astarion along)

I hate playing Wyll... I just haven't figured out warlocks yet. He seems bad at everything. Most likely my party will be Astarion, Shadowheart, Lae'zel, and Gale... and I'll likely swap out LaeZel for that barbarian just because Lae'zel annoys the sh*t out of me. I'll probably also swap them out as needed for character-specific activities (like Wyll in the Goblin fortress, Lae'zel for her creche, etc)

Then again, looking at the origins again at https://baldursgate3.wiki.fextralife.com/Origins, maybe I'll bring a Dark Urge Monk or something... haven't tried a monk, and the dark urge isn't available in any other origin character.

I'm excited to get playing, but I'm not much of a planner... I'll probably end up making a gut decision. And very likely change my mind a few times before I actually do a real playthrough.
According to the sale email I just got from GOG, I'm apparently playing a retro FPS. Truly the Baldur's Gate series is one of the greatest classics of the shooter genre and I'm glad to see this new entry's retro aesthetic being recognized.

Bounty hunter shadow ranger I'm pretty sure. A male so I can make sweet love to Shadowheart.

I'm also very interested in playing a rogue assassin. That's my favorite class in general in RPGs and what I usually play first, but something is steering me toward ranger male in this game. I'll probably make a female rogue with the "dark urge" for my second go.

I think the necro druid class with the fungus stuff sounds cool too, for a third go someday.
I'm leaning towards a monk, either Elven or Half-Orc.

If not that I'll probably go with a Half-Elf paladin.

Not sure about subclasses yet.

Too many choices!

I haven't played EA so my assumptions about how things work are based on the, oh so reliable, internet
...

Halfling Druid Moon Circle 11/Monk 1: the thought of a tiny halfing shifting into a huge beast amuses me. Or maybe a Gnome. I'm not sure which are smaller and I like the Superior Darkvision of the Deep Gnome.

Githyanki Warlock: Githyanki sounds like they will be interesting story wise and I'm curious how the Warlock patron will manifest.

Asmodeus Tiefling Bard 1/Wizard 11. The Tiefling Thaumaturgy cantrip sounds like it might be fun and I like the Cha based talking skills the Bard can attain, with an emphasis on Deception, plus occasional usage of their Bardic inspiration to cheat their way through some dialogue. However, I don't have much experience with DnD so I like the spell flexibility of the Wizard. Basically, this would be an attempt at kind of having a Bard but with the spell selection of a Wizard. Having high Cha and Int will be challenging but I don't think I need to min/max. Tieflings sound like they might have some interesting dialogue options.

Seldarine Drow Bard: if I understand correctly, Drow are prejudiced against so there's something incongruently interesting about a highly charismatic Drow. I don't know if you can play as a Lolth-sworn Drow who's not evil. If you can, that would be even more interesting. Sworn because they had to be but they don't actually want to be.

Dragonborn Sorcerer Draconic Bloodline: you can never have too much Dragon!

Wood Elf Shadow Monk: bring on the stealth.

Lolth-sworn Drow Paladin: ... how does that combo even work ?! ... or maybe it doesn't .... the Oath breaker concept sounds interesting as well. A Lolth-sworn who tried to be good but just couldn't manage it?

The Dark urge also looks really interesting but for a future playthrough, assuming I can find the time for it.

I know you said Lolth-sworn, but since I'm not up on 5e due to only playing video games it's odd to me there's such a focus on "good" Drow now. I didn't even know that was a thing. Apparently they even have their own deity.

I like your character ideas. It reminds me of the Golgari decks in MTG, which is my favourite type of deck to play.

The cult of Eilistraee has been around for some time.
