Err that makes no sense. The installation files are literally data ? I wouldnt be able to copy the game to my current harddisk and then install either.

Or is the OP trying to install the game to an external drive ? That too makes very much sense though because Mac is notorious for not having much harddrive space available.

i read it as he is trying to install to an exturnal drive which means into and out of a Usb port or perhaps thunderbold [difference is one was made to work on Windows and the other was Apple] either way its a well known cause of errors which anyone can google if they really want to know the ins and outs

p.s, i do own two Macs but mostly play games on Windows... the offline files have only just been updated in the last few days

That's not correct. You can set the GOG folder location to an external drive and GOG Galaxy will install the games there.

In this case for whatever reason the game refused to update, despite the update being almost the same size as the full install (135 vs 153 GB).

I ended up having to delete the game and then reinstalling it with GOG Galaxy to get the game to install.

I'd love to download the Mac offline installer, but as it's 54 separate 4 GB file downloads and the GOG Galaxy application fails to download the offline installer I haven't down that yet.

On a side note, the GOG Mac version of BG3 still has a broken launcher included in patch 7. If I run the app it opens a launcher where I can choose Rosetta or ARM64. Choosing Arm64 does nothing.

Fortunately there is an Arm64 version of launcher included, but I had to rename that to get it to work. I have no idea how anyone that's on an Apple Silicon Mac actually plays this game as the launcher is basically broken as installed. The only way I got it working was through experimentation and knowing linux.

Also cross saves only work if GOG Galaxy is running and GOG Galaxy on Macs is still somewhat broken in that you can't quit it.

Is the GoG version still doing a complete reinstall of the game when updating with the latest patch?

I stop playing a few patches ago until they stop developing new patches because of this issue and my rural crappy internet. Originally used the offline installer before installing with the GoG launcher but that was also causing problems early on, don't remember what the problem was.
