I was wondering that myself. Also how to tell when you're downloading the full version as opposed to the Early Access one.

Per articles and interviews online, the official word is to UNINSTALL the Early Access client (and delete all save game files) before trying to install the release client, to avoid possible conflicts in the installation.
Probably not. I asked on (ugh) Twitter and like everyone else, no response from Larian. They seem to be ducking the question a bit.

I suspect that Larian told GoG we can't preload here either. Probably because Steam Is All. Bah.

Larian posted removal instructions for EA on their forums..but just for Steam. Double bah.

My GoG removal was - uninstall game. Then wipe save folders. Seemed to remove even the cloud saves when I reinstalled to check.

C:\Users\<YOUR USER>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios was what I deleted. And of course all and any mods.
The issue on Steam is it's not a new release, it's technically an update, so how do you do a pre-load for what essentially works as a patch in the system? Answer is you don't. I doubt GOG functions any different.

This is a really good point. From a technical perspective, if we were to treat the full release as something different than EA, you'd have to separately install and manage each.

The advantage is if you wanted to go back and play the EA version, you could without having to stockpile backup installers. The disadvantage is the hundreds of people who just want to play their game having to uninstall the old and reinstall the new, or having to deal with two copies installed on their drive. Seems messy to me.

I'm just telling myself the release date is Aug 4, and I'll play it then.

Probably the size, seeing as it's like 120 GB opposed to the ea 70 something GB but I don't think we will be able to due to the same limitations of steam. oh well.
do we uninstall the game? Is the game releasing on GOG? Who knows!

Hopefully you can at least kick off the download tomorrow, so it's ready when you get a minute.

Being an adult is NOT at all what it seemed when I was a kid....

Not sure why you think these are unanswered questions? The launch times given are for all platforms. Larian specifically said to uninstall the EA version and delete all saves. There is no confusion here.

The confusion comes from the lack of comms from devs partly because of the way GOG works you don't get a newsfeed for the games you own. The other thing is they posted instructions for steam. We're just assuming it works the same on GOG, which is a safe assumption, but it would be nice to have some certainty.

now that we know there's no preload and we can't even convert from EA to full release (at least that's the assumption). We now also get to enjoy the limited gog download speeds. GOG is awesome but definitely wish I'd bought on steam.

The same news stuff is on their website, it's just copied over to Steam. As you say, GOG does not have a similar function, which is why it's not done here. The website prominently displays GOG's logo on the front page, and all news applies to it.
