Thanks GoG.com for resolving this!
Just so everybody knows, the only way to actually patch the offline-install to the correct Hotfix 4 is to completly de- and then reinstall the game.

Falling back on a backup of a previous game version to patch that up because copying a backup from an external harddrive is faster than a complete reinstall? Not working, game tell's you it's version is already higher than all the hotfixes you want to use on your backup to patch it up again.
Deinstalling the game, then using the backup? Not working either because now the hotfixs' installers don't recognise the installation anymore.

So yeah, complete reinstall or probably going into the registry and editing whatever GOG wrote there so you can patch up your backup again, it is.

Great job GOG. Really. That's the first and last time I've bought anything from here.
My game says it's on version 4.1.1.3648072 on the main menu but when I check the data folder for the game, hotfix 4 is not present. Am I looking in the wrong place? When I check for updates on galaxy it says no updates are available.

I'm trying to play coop with a friend that bought it on steam but it says we are on different versions when we try to play even though we aren't according to our version number.

Try using the Heroic launcher. Add a game and point the path to your existing offline install then update BG3, should fix it to the proper patch and then you can go back to manual installs and launching .exe's, won't need Heroic again or need to reinstall the entire game.

Geromino: Version *072 is the current version (new Hotfix 4)

Version *567 is the incorrect version (bad Hotfix 4)

I bought the game on Friday and now, on Monday, I can finally download a working version.

Thanks for the correction, I fixed my post. However, the point still stands: the latest patch can't be installed if you have 567 installed. What a mess.
Yep they rolled the first Hotfix 4 back and thus dont offer a way to undo the fix. Therefore once you have the bad Hotfix, a complete reinstall is the only option.
when we finish the SVO, then you pcheeks on your knees will crawl to us ))

Assuming you've saved your offline installers, you don't need to redownload the latest version of the entire game.

You can reinstall using those original files and patch installers - once you're at hotfix 3 just install the new hotfix 4 installer.
You would assume, that they would at least remove the broken patch installer version from their download offers. But no - the fixed hotfix 4 and the broken hotfix 4 patch are both available at the same time for download.
I was pretty confused, but luckily checked the version numbers thoroughly and installed the correct patch.

Since I dont use it, I dont know anything about the GoG installer client. If theres an option for that, great. My impression was that you just run this thing and dont get any saves for the downloads that thing does.

Which means if you have a new machine you have to download everything again.

In my case I enjoy very much having the games I own actually as a finished product in hand, able to install them on any new machine again without download should both my old computers and the internet break down.
I have saved all my GOG games offline installers on an extern 4TB USB HDD which takes some time to do when you have ~170 GOG games but now i can simply install them anywhere i have that drive with me.

GOG is the only plattform where you own the game installation files (with the limit that ofc online games are depending on the online service but that is the nature of the beast you know beforehand).

Now, when i buy a new game its a small effort to save that files too if i do not let me get trapped in a backlog of files to download.

Baldurs Gate 3 so far i have not downloaded yet but Galaxy should offer an option to save the installation file also!
