Stuff: Add -no3d -doublebuffer
the -no3d needs to be there along with the -doublebuffer
Edit: also make sure you have "Run as administrator" checked in the game shortcut under the Compatibility tab.

Oh, ok, You're right, thanks! You're a diamond!;)
I acknowledge my stupidity, i've tried -no3d and -doublebuffer separately...
Already on Admin privileges..;)
I understand the loading screens should be off? [aligned to the left, not center]

Made the same mistake . . . =) . . . mine is loading left aligned so . . .
The HR patch is picky about the video cards / drivers it chooses to work well with. If you get no joy using both switches above make sure you video driver is the newest available. If it is the newest you might try rolling it back to the previous version. I have heard no sure fix for getting the HR patch to work with every card / driver combo. . . =)

Well, it works neatly now!:D
I have a lot of problems with games on the 7600 GT [like a blocky PS 1.1 flashlight in SWAT 4, even though the game detects PS2.0], or a display reset on the login screen, and after logging [screen goes off, and then on again]. The drivers are fresh, but with every new one i feel like they are not really for my card.;P
I need to get back to ATI fast.. ;)
But now, Arcanum time.;D
Doesn't seem to be Nvidia or ATI specific, the game works well on both my systems, one ATI and one Nvidia. I think it may be a certain combination of hardware and drivers or a specific model of either card that the HR patch doesn't like, sometimes using a newer driver works, sometimes rolling back to an older driver works better. . . =) . . . Arcanum time it is !!

Your target path in the game shortcut should look like this -
"C:\Program files\GOG.com\Arcanum\Arcanum.exe" -no3d -doublebuffer
You path may be different depending on where you installed it so just add -no3d -doublebuffer at the end of it. Also make sure you have the "Run as administrator" checked on the game shortcut Compatibility tab. . . .=)

I just did the no3d and double buffer thingamajig with my shortcut, and all my saves seemed to disappear. Or is there something else that can invalidate your saves?

I can see no reason why either -no3d or -doublebuffer would harm your system, game or delete records ???
Did you add them to the target path after the " ??
should look something like this -
"C:\Program files\GOG.com\Arcanum\Arcanum.exe" -no3d -doublebuffer
Edit : make sure you have the "Run as administrator" check marked in the game shortcut under the Compatibility tab as well.

Okay. Perhaps it was something else that did it. I'll fiddle around and come back with results.
I have once had my save game disappear in 7, but it was very early on so no big loss. That was before running it as a admin, which seems to have cleared up the problem. The save game loss seems to be unrelated to the patch or video settings, as I was not using either at the time
The saves disappearing is probably related to the 'Run as Admin' setting.
If the .exe is being run as admin, saves will be stored in the game folder.
if the .exe is not being run as admin, saves will be stored in the AppData folder.
Changing the 'Run as Admin' setting naturally causes that the game can no longer find the saves folder.

There we go then, thanks for the info Namur.

Very interesting point, is this Windows 7 specific? I have SG on my Vista laptop, changed it to "Run as admin" and it still found the original saves. Might be game specific as well?
