Also, I had a feeling Mimo might have something in the wings that was hoping to slip in behind me.

So, something I tested before attacking Mimo last turn: towers are kind of like cities, except smaller and not as nice. If attacked while adjacent to a friendly city center, you'll get the protection of the city. If attacked while adjacent to a friendly tower, you do NOT get the tower's protection.

I'm guessing this is because the adjacent hex doesn't actually include the tower, while all hexes adjacent to the city center are actually part of the city. I expect it would be similar to attacking units adjacent to one of the outer hexes of the city; you aren't attacking a city hex, so the city doesn't help you.

In any case, I definitely wouldn't have tried to force that battle if testing indicated that Mimo would get the tower walls. It probably would have been a blood bath going the other way.
