I just bought this game, and I've only played it for a bit so far, but I must say it seems excellent. I'm a sucker for story driven games, and this one pulled me right in. It's like an epic sci-fi movie and an action game rolled into one. I can't wait to see how the story unfolds.
Additionally, this game is also extremely difficult! :-/

solidgames: The Trilogy is pretty much dead since the game did poorly and I don't think the team is intact. The world of Advent Rising just never picked up steam in the gaming community . But never say never.

anjohl: They had planned for a LOT more than a trilogy. This was supposed to be an "epic franchise". The buyers just didn't respond.

Maybe they would have responded if they'd only bothered to advertise it a bit. I never knew this game existed until it hit GOG. Never read about it, never seen any adverts, never seen it in any shops.

The game actually has a really weird difficulty curve. It gets pretty difficult during the first half of the game (especially during a couple sections where all you can really do is run for it and hope no one kills you) but then once a certain event happens mid-game and you get new combat abilities, it actually gets quite easy. One of the powers is so abusively overpowered that I quit using it because it simply made the game boring.
Also, one thing that's not immediately obvious is that all of your skills (shooting, jumping, etc) have an RPG-like experience system behind them where they improve with use. While it's not a requirement to do this, if you're patient you can grind all your abilities up to the highest level as soon as you get them, and that makes the game vastly easier. (If, of course, you're willing to do things like jumping\shooting in place for 20 minutes before getting on with the game...)
And as far as the game seeing sequels, it's really incredibly unlikely to happen. This was the one and only game from the studio that produced it - they put all their resources behind this one product, hoping to hit one out of the park, but it just didn't happen. That studio is now defunct. And the company that produced and funded it - Majesco - decided shortly after it flopped that they would focus on handheld and casual games, rather than gambling on blockbusters. Add to that the fact that Orson Scott Card hasn't indicated any real interest I'm aware of in returning to the Advent universe, and you've got a dead franchise.
That said, I enjoy the hell out of this game (the abusive abilities you get later on are also loads of fun) and even though it ends on a TBC, it's still well worth the $6 that GOG charges.
I get the mad camera spinning thing as well. Guess I'll have to uplug my xbox controller before I launch it. The sound was a bit buggy, but so have almost all games even newer ones recently. Looking forward to playing this opening scene was great.
Check this out. This was posted on June 1st of 2006 on the Chair forums. Donald Mustard was, along with his brother, the main driving force in creating the game.
"We may not be able to respond to all the speculation about Advent on the forums, but we are certainly aware of it and we'd like to take the opportunity to address a few outstanding questions.
First, I'd like to confirm that our next project is NOT the second installment of the Advent trilogy or anything related to Advent. We are currently working on a completely new franchise, which you'll hear more about later.
Second, although our Core Design Team is comprised of several key members of the Advent team, we currently do not own the rights to the franchise (Majesco owns the IP) so we don't have the ability to continue the series at this time.
Lastly, I love Advent. We all LOVE Advent. It was designed as a trilogy and it's an incredible story. I will always remain committed to the franchise and would be happy to finish the series if the opportunity presented itself. For now, we've got much bigger things in store for you.
We're moving in a new and very exciting direction, a direction that we control. We'll keep you as up-to-date as possible and hope you'll continue to always let us know your thoughts.
Donald Mustard"

With such a gap on this, I think, sadly, we may never see a sequel. Not even a crummy PSP version in Advent Shadow.
Can people who bought the game tell us a bit about the game stability? I'm interested in crashes and audio glitches, especially during cinematics. Thanks.
I do not remeber crashes. Maybe one or two, but irrilevant.

It crashed quite a bit with me - about 5-10 times in all, I guess, but it was at random and I always managed to get back playing beyond the previous crash point, so it was not a big deal. Other than the occasional crash, it was enjoyable and relatively bug-free.
i always planned to buy this game on steam some day. thanks to gog i didn't. i got it even cheaper, 10$ instead of 10€
Good game so far, a few crashes, especially when the game saves... but the savegames are intact after restarting the game *phew*

psalm141: Does this game support the Xbox 360 controller?

BmB: You can get it working, but you'll need xpadder for the triggers and you'll have to manually edit the axes for the thumbsticks in the game's .ini files.

As for the continuation of the series, I hope the original creators who are now at Chair entertainment will try to pick it up again some day. After getting some experience with their current endevaours. The game really deserves it.
Unfortunately, Chair no longer has the rights, so a sequel is very unlikely. :/
They do have Epic's money now, so a purchase should not be too far fetched.
One of my all time favourites.Sadly it had very bad reviews because of a unplayable xbox 1 version that led to bad sales on the pc even through the game run like magic....And that caused the company to close and...i still want the other parts as the game was designed to be a trilogy !! Maybe someday Epic helps what is left of the original team(its now called chair) and we one day continue this amazing saga..
By the way Is there any improvement in this version ? The original needed the imagecfc to run under new processors without problems(Or select the cpu afinity to one)
