mrelusive603: I think I've found a fix for anyone who's still interested.

Please refer the attached image on this post - make sure all players change their compatibility settings on your AOW executable to exactly as shown.

I've tested this on a few maps with friends and so far it's worked every time. I even did a comp-stomp on Yellow Cake with 3 humans vs all AI. No timeouts, no disconnects, just worked first time.

For anyone who can't view the attached image in my last post, here's a TL;DR set of instructions:

1. Go to properties on your AOW executable, select the compatibility tab.
2. Click "change settings for all users" at the bottom.
3. Select Win95 mode from the drop-down box.
4. Tick "disable visual themes", "disable desktop composition" and "disable display scaling" (the bottom 3).
5. Click OK on both windows to close them.

You do not need to run AOW in administrator mode.
Hi, Just tried your method. Tested it multiplayer with two laptops and played all 8 Player Maps as well as two 6 Player maps (empty slots filled with AI). It seems to work, at least fixed my problem so far. Only had a disconnect in the first match, not afterwards. Thank you so much. I have been looking for years and finally have a solution!

You're welcome buddy. I'm really pleased to hear it works for you :)

This fix also works on the Steam version too. In fact, I still regularly play with a buddy of mine; he uses the Steam version, I use the GoG version. I don't think we've had a single "Server Closed" disconnect over the past year.

I think this should work on the disc version too, but I don't have my original discs anymore. If someone else with a disc version could confirm if the fix works that would be awesome.
LAN works but, certain maps will not load for all players, causing the player that is not the host to get disconnected. i have experienced it in the maps that have shipyard sites.
Hi Guys
I am completely lost here..
I have PC and a laptop both on the same network. I am trying to get LAN game going.
What ever I do 2nd PC dose not see game Started by1st PC.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!!!
sorry if it is a late response but, i did not see it until now. here is the thing: older games was never built for ip version 6 and only supports version 4. you therefore need to go into network settings and turn off ip version 6. i can give you more information if you need it.
