Hi everyone

There's more info about the setting of the story... (update 9)

spindown: They want $300,000?? That seems highly unrealistic to me.

Now, this project doesn't have any heavy hitters like those do, but 300k does exist if you're out to offer something people want.

Yeah, I'm not saying that raising a few hundred thousand dollars is impossible. But it's very hard to earn that level of trust. If you are virtually unknown, like the makers of Tortured Hearts, the most you can realistically ask for in my opinion is something like $10,000 to $50,000 - if you have a convincing presentation of your project. These guys have not even raised one percent of their target amount so far, and I can certainly see why.
I can agree there. It's been a week and a half and they have basically nothing. They're asking for way too much and showing way too little.

I like the art style, and that's cool, but Dragon Quest 5 already did that. Since apparently the tech demo that people want to see can't be made for several months, then they're probably sunk.
Well, I backed this game, hope you'll make it.
Lokathor

Shadowrun and Wasteland are legendary names.
The Banner Saga was nearly finished before kickstarter kicked in.

Also, all these games had real and massive media coverage, unlike us.

Thank you. This is the only way it can be realized.
Please spread the word.

SubBassman.

I like the idea of your vision and I like the fact that your mapped out what you want the game to be, I do hope it happens for you.

However, You have to keep in mind, Jordan Weisman, a man with rep and experience only asked for $400,000 for Shadowrun and that ip is already established with a loyal fanbase, and even he wasn't sure it would get funded (it did.. YAY for Shadowrun). I feel that you have aimed too high asking for the amount that you did because you have none of the things he does, ok experience with Aurora, but it all honesty that doesn't really count, lots of people do but aren't worthy of fund raising, making mods and then moving on to a full project in a different engine is a different situation entirely.

The first question that is asked when people look at a kickstarter is "is this worth it?" and as you're not bringing anything to the trading table, it's hard to justify that it is, had you been a bit more grounded in your expectations and asked for $100,000, then people may have seen more 'worth' in your game and I honestly think you would have made that, even a bit more, and then you should have been able to make the game from that (honestly, if someone at your stage of creative career can't make a good experience from $100,000, then I honestly don't see you being given a chance with a higher budget), but it would have required you cutting your cloth according to your material but that would have helped you build your repuation for bigger budgets. As it is if/when your don't reach your target, if you ever try again then this will be remembered and it will be harder second time around.

I wish you well for your future I really do, but I feel you may have poked yourself in the eye asking for so much, with so little to trade with.

One of those lines is right.

Shadowrun and Wasteland are legendary, sure.

But The Banner Saga... They have a "working prototype" right now for the game mechanics side, and they've got some good art and video clips so far too. However, they're just now starting on animation work, hiring their sounds group, and hiring the music group. It is a large quantity from nearly finished.

It's actually probably very close to where you are in terms of total production work done as a percentage. The difference is that they worked on different segments first, so they had a story to talk about and some game visuals to show, not just 500k lines of dialog waiting to be converted between formats. What you've done first and what you have to show off is as important as how much you've done out of the total.

And man, no one really likes half-orcs. It's just squicky to think about where they came from, and there's basically never a reason to not just use orcs as a player race instead. Anyone who'd want to be a half-orc would want to be a full orc too, so there's no reason to keep putting them into new products and settings.

As it is stated in one of the updates, it would have been very risky to ask for, say, 100 k, because if we promise a full RPG like this for 100 k and we don't get more, we couldn'tdo it. :)

300 k is the lowest possible amount we can ask for a game with this scope.

Asking 400 k for Shadowrun was based on the already established reputation. They were sure they'd get much more (which actually happens) :)

Anyway, it is still possible. It only needs a few thousands of people with faith in us.

We are working hard on it.

BTW, Lenore's favorite game is Torment... :)

Did you check the updates?

"They have a "working prototype" right now for the game mechanics side,"

Yes, we have the OTHER aspect of the game done. The complex and tested story. I'd say, 5000+ hours invested.

Unfortunately, it's not spectacular to show off without graphics, but it is the very core of every serious RPG. :)

By the way, there are new pledge categories. Please check them out.
With your help, guys, everything's possible.

Also, if you like the game, please spread the word.
Do you have any contingency plans in case the kickstarter doesn't make it?

I would recommend trying again after all the high-profile ones die down because people are going crazy on those right now and they won't have money to donate to the less known projects for a while...

Yep, but let's be optimistic till the end of this one. :)

We need the help of RPG lovers from all around the world.

This is a game you would never get from a Big Studio because they focus on profit.

We focus on the game with all our hearts.

Even a small pledge is a good pledge, I'd say. They can raise it later before the deadline.

I take it you meant to write 'in my opinion' at the beginning of this, because as far as I'm concerned you're all colours of wrong.

I like what you are doing, but at the time i am completely cash strapped, otherwise i would donate to this project. I am assuming that you are one of the developers behind this project, if not please forgive the assumption.

The one big question that i would like to ask is after the games completion will it be available from your website DRM-free? I wouldn't mind paying a higher price for the game but as i stated earlier i am currently cash strapped at the moment.

Thanks for your time, and best of luck with your funding effort.
