bansama: misleading accusations
There's nothing misleading about stating you won't be able to by a product because you don't live in America. There's nothing misleading about stating you'll be charged far more for a product just because of your geographical region and because you want to purchase from Impulse.
Tell me, if Impulse supposedly have 10% market share with D2D and GamersGate having significantly less, how come both D2D and GamersGate can sell Tropico 3 for $39.99 or less when Impulse apparently can only sell it for $60?
Are you really going to try and claim the publisher is forcing only ONE DD service to over charge non-US customers? Don't be so naive.

You're right. They are gouging your market because they hate you.
No, they're gouging the market because they think they can con us into paying more. Doesn't work when they readily send out their emails which give away the US prices (that they try so hard to conceal from non-US customers).
Either way, go back to your fanboyish naivety of Impulse. I'm truly done reading your banter.

You honestly believe that they hope to con you into paying more? Do you realize how foolish that sounds? What do they stand to gain? How can you justify that claim?
Your statement is absurd.
Also, you claimed to be "done" with me several posts ago. Please make up your mind. :)

melchiz: To conclude that these companies could care less about foreign consumers is unreasonable. As businesses, they stand to profit with a larger audience. Why would they snub potential markets?

From my own experience Stardock only care about the US and the UK. It's fair enough you have to walk before you can run. I am a huge Capcom fanboy and when Street Fighter IV came up for pre-order I chose Impulse over Steam. Both were selling at the same price but I prefer Impulse because of the download speeds. Release day came and I didn't have Street Fighter IV. Why? Stardock do this bizarre thing where they charge your card for the full amount and then take out the payment. As far as my card company were concerned they were charging me twice. I had to wait 3 days for a reply from Stardock customer services while US users on the Stardock forums were all sorted out in a few hours. Eventually I got a reply which was "So do you want the game? I can finish the payment now". That there is extremely bad customer service, not even a sorry. I could have bought the game on Steam and be playing it but no I decided to support Stardock and they repayed me by treating me like shit.
Stardock are a great company to use IF you live in the US. If not go to Gamersgate.

I'm aware of similar cases and Impulse does have its shortcomings. I would be more critical of Stardock if they were less forthcoming with these issues. From what I've followed, they are open about problems like these, and it is somewhat rare that you were treated poorly. If your experience has turned you off regarding Impulse, I encourage you to contact them and share your frustration in a constructive way.
In fact, I recommend the above approach for any problems one might experience with retail. Most companies will have at least some dissatisfied customers, but I evaluate a company based on its response to problems and complaints.

I evaluate a company based on my personal experience and with Stardock it was poor. However I still think they are a decent company and I will support them, I simply will not pre-order from them again. Street Fighter IV was Stardock's first AAA title available for pre-order and they sorted their customers out in order of region first which is shameful. In fact I firmly believe that if I wasn't making a complete fool of them on Twitter it would have taken longer than 3 days.

If that's true, it is quite lame. I would like to see how these companies develop.
Which will be the best for international consumers?
Which will offer the greatest degree of freedom in usage?
Which will offer the best deals?
Digital distribution is in its infancy so it's up to these companies to innovate and become more attractive than their competitors.

I cant obviously prove that however it was a co-incidence that when I started slagging them off on Twitter I suddenly got an e-mail from that snotty woman asking me if I wanted the game or not. If you go over the Street Fighter IV Forum on the Impulse site you will see people getting the problem sorted very quickly in the US and me twiddling my thumbs.

At the moment the best service for Europe is Gamersgate. The best deals however are still with Steam.

Cleaned up my Steam folder today.Deleted all source games.Only left SR2.
Secure Steam and DRM is all about control over you and what you do it maybe a game but its still control and if you allow it in the smallest form they will keep pushing until you are so restricted they playing a game is allowed for 1 week at $45 if you want more time say another week well another $45... Its coming children and I am unhappy that many of you can’t wait for that day to hit.....

If you really believe that, you'd better stop playing games now and start making yourself a collection of tin foil hats.

I have quite a few in my collection, some of them in pink. I should eBay them or something.

Only if you have matching tin foil suits to go with them.

What does tin foil hats have anything to do with DRM or Secure Steam???
