SimonG: I prefer consoles for all the complex stuff you can do. What the Dreamcast has to offer with modding is great. Also, it has more complex games. Those JRPGs really offer some number crunching. What I like with PC gaming is the simplicity. Just clicking install and it runs. Nothing to bother with. Also, there are a lot of jump 'n' runs due to the indie surge.
*Is in awe*

Well done, sir.

Lack of alternatives, I guess. For most games you either use a gamepad (which really has too few buttons, but adding more would probably not have a positive effect, as it would make it cluttered and uncomfortable) or a keyboard (which has a lot of buttons, but a layout that isn't ideal). I've never liked gaming keyboards though, those tend to add a lot of buttons, but either not where I can comfortably reach them, or a where I'm used to resting my hand, so I press them by mistake, so the keyboard is really the best alternative out there at the moment.

I think it is simply because the conceivable alternatives don't really offer that much, or any, extra advantage over a standard keyboard.

No analog walking speed with a digital keyboard? At least I find myself pretty much always running at full speed in console FPS games with a gamepad, so the analog movement goes usually completely wasted anyway, especially if we were talking about competitive multiplayer gaming. Not to mention that even with an analog movement stick, most console games seem to offer only two movement speeds anyway, walking and running. Not really truly analog speed.

It is a bit same as why would people play driving games with a general-purpose gamepad or joystick, when they could be using a steering wheel and pedals? Well, the experience tells that the steering wheel/pedal systems will not make your lap times better, quite often the exact opposite. All they offer is a faux "authentic" feel for real driving controls, a bit like those (IMHO) useless separate throttle controllers for PC flight simulators.

So would you damn anyone who plays e.g. console driving games with a mere gamepad?

I really don't understand this almost religious devotion certain people have to their platform of choice. Games are nothing more than a simple pastime, these crusades against the evil consoles/PCs/whatever is just plain pathetic to anyone with more than two functioning brain cells.

Just use whatever works for you, enjoy your games and try not to fly off the handle at the idea of others doing the same. It's not that bloody difficult...

Well, I did see a rather interesting little gadget that was like a nunchuck from the Wii that worked with a mouse. I still prefer keyboard myself, but there are a lot of devices that you can get to suit almost anything really. No limit to customization.
all this drama over a funny cartoon on youtube. I don't know how I should. People on the internet really need to grow a spine and take a joke lol,

Really.

timppu: useless throttle
I had a gamepad with separate throttle control, and it was awesome. It was the best thing to play Enemy Engaded back then, making many maneouvers much easier than on keyboard.

I agree about steering wheel. Be honest, even if you are a good driver, you're probably not good enough to make 90 degrees turn on full speed with shifting gears in less than a 2 seconds. I tried to play racing games on a steering wheel (with pedals and gearbox), and I failed hard most of the time... Maybe it requires some practice, but I think using gamepad to make better times is easier.

Then don't watch it.
I laughed several times. Thanks for posting the link to this video. +1

That's very ironic, but did you know they are re-releasing FF7 on PC? I'm looking forward to it :P
The vid reminded me of one thing, tho: What's about the obsession of some people to run videogames at 60 FPS? 30's fine and smooth, 40 feels kinda better, but anything above 45 or so is pretty much unrecognisable by naked eye. So... What's the big deal?
Coming from a guy who mostly grew up with console gaming:

I am starting to understand why PC gamers are so elitist because well how can you deny all of the great games and modding of the last generations

Deus Ex
Fallout
Thief
Morrowind
Half-Life
Starcraft
System Shock 2
Alone in the Dark (PC Gaming founded survival horror)
Wolfenstien 3D/Doom
Unreal
Battlefield
Everquest
Ultima
The Sims
Grim Fandango
etc.

All those great games with so much variety and I look at PC gaming now and it has few dedicated ones like Valve and Blizzard and CDprojeckt and Bohemia. (the first 2 of which are on gamers shit list)

Hell, I run The Witcher 2 at 20-25 FPS on my laptop and I've not only played it all the way through, but I've enjoyed it immensely.

The advantage to a keyboard is that you have a lot of possibilities when it comes to mapping controls. And many of us are really used to it at this point. But yeah... it was never designed for gaming, and that shows. It's only survived because PC gaming has basically grown around it.

Mouse control is what "makes" it. At least for me.

Did you know that the game has been re-released quite some time ago.

And I played it on the PC, no emulation, in '98.
