The US have an electoral system. Germany never had one. You are comparing apples and wagon tires. If you simply apply the rules of a plurality voting system on the districting of a proportional representation election system then you get all kind of wacky results.

The Sandy thing won't matter by then, all that will matter to the GOP is who can win. The reason they might reject Christie is he's not the most establishment-friendly Republican, but this election shows them they need someone like him, so who knows.

Then of course there is also the factor of whether Christie wants it. He has acted like he doesn't before, but that was probably a timing thing.

Anyway, Christie and Rubio are the best they have for 2016 right now. I doubt Christie's Sandy comments, legitimate or part of a long game he is playing, will matter at that point.

The Democrat side should also be interesting. If they run Biden they are idiots, in my opinion. Hillary might try again. Who do they have who is younger and more vibrant? I honestly don't know.

Considering Obama's main competition is an idiot who wants to send human rights back a few decades, I'm not surprised by this at all.

Yeah, Biden would be a joke, and Hillary will fail. But there's always Michelle, so you never know, maybe Obama's will make what was impossible for Clintons.

And as for GOP - I think they should consider going R&R again, but this time Rubio and Ryan.

One interesting thing - Romney didn't get much more votes than McCain in 2008. That's very surprising for me, because I was sure there will be bigger turnout among Republicans than in 2008. I read about people reporting very large lines (never seen in their life) behind the polls in a very Rep counties, contrary to very small lines in Dems counties. They also had much more enrhusiasm, and they had bigger numbers on their rallies than Obama (Obama had much smaller rallies than in 2008 in the same places).

The point is that in a majority electoral system you can become leader with less than 50% of the votes. It favors big parties and/or strong charismatic persons and will more often give them alone power than if you need a majority of the votes. That can be seen as a risky characteristics and has nothing to do with high heels whatsorever. Of course germany is different but that's not the point really.

I think she had her chance. And I think that the fact Obama is young (comparing to McCain and Romney) was giving him some edge. Something Hillary won't have in 2016.

Sure, but I don't know of a better Democrat alternative and I bet she runs. She was practically tied with Obama 4 years ago, her gender would give her a massive boost and she now has a ton of foreign policy credentials from her time as Secretary of State.

Just looking at the Facebook posts on both the Romney and Obama campaign Facebook pages, some of the hatred and racism being spewed out by GOP supporters in particular (but also Democrats, albeit to a lesser extent) is absolutely disgusting. Some of the Romney voters have genuinely been graceful in defeat, but many of the others are just a disgrace.

LOL at the ones though proudly announcing that they're moving to Canada and Europe to escape the "socialized health care" and "government dependency" though. The ignorance really shines through there.

Discussion in the thread was about the pros and cons of the US electoral system. I read that one disadvantage is that Hitler would have had it easier to come to power. I find that a valid point, agree with it and publish it here. It's very clear.

It (you?) voted to request that, which the Union will almost certainly grant. It will takes months or years of formal wrangling though, surely. I bet both parties try and make it happen before the next election though.

To be fair to people here who wanted Puerto Rico to be independant, its own country including father, though he is not an extremist about it, wanted this island independent. But now they are probably upset, All that happaned to what they wanted to achieve were for nought.
